Abstract

This study departs from the urgent problem of moral decline in contemporary society, which is closely related to the weakening of tawhid education and the lack of understanding and internalization of the rewards promised by Allah in the Qur’an. The purpose of this research is to analyze the composition of the book Ilmu Tauhid by KH. Aceng Zakaria, to examine the interpretation of Qur’anic verses concerning rewards for those who believe and perform righteous deeds in the book, and to explore the characteristics of Persis theology. This research employs a qualitative approach with a library research design. The study focuses on the thoughts of KH. Aceng Zakaria and his works, particularly Ilmu Tauhid and Pokok-Pokok Ilmu Tauhid, as primary sources, supported by Tafsir Ibnu Katsir. Data were collected through documentation techniques and analyzed descriptively to understand the interpretative approach and theological framework used. The findings indicate that Ilmu Tauhid is a compilation of teaching materials originally delivered at Pesantren Ahad. The interpretation of reward verses emphasizes the vastness and comprehensiveness of divine rewards for believers who perform righteous deeds. Furthermore, Persis theology is characterized by a puritan orientation that seeks to purify Islamic teachings from elements of shirk, superstition, and heresy. This study recommends further scholarly exploration of contemporary theological and exegetical products to enrich Qur’anic studies and methodological discourse in Islamic scholarship.

Abstract

This study examines the high rate of poverty in Indonesia, particularly among Muslims, which is often associated with a misconceived understanding of simplicity in Islamic teachings. Simplicity is frequently interpreted as passive acceptance of deprivation and even regarded as a sign of piety, reinforcing structural poverty and social injustice. This research aims to deconstruct and reconstruct the Qur’anic concept of simplicity by emphasizing a liberative interpretation that promotes social justice rather than resignation. The study employs a qualitative approach through discourse analysis and thematic interpretation. It focuses on Qur’anic verses related to poverty and simplicity, while analyzing the social discourse shaped by their interpretations. This research is a library study, drawing on primary sources such as the Qur’an and classical as well as contemporary tafsir works, alongside relevant scholarly references. The theoretical framework combines Al-Farmawi’s thematic tafsir method and Anthony Giddens’ structuration theory to explain how individuals can critically engage with and transform oppressive social structures through reflexive action. The findings from QS. Al-Furqan: 67, QS. Al-A’raf: 29, and QS. An-Nisa: 79 indicate that simplicity in Islam is closely related to justice, self-restraint, and social responsibility in controlling consumerism. These results demonstrate that Islam does not legitimize poverty but calls for justice and resistance against oppressive structures.
