Abstract

The teaching profession is one of the fields of work that demands specific expertise, advanced education, and professional conduct to shape a high-quality younger generation. This paper elucidates the concepts of the teaching profession and teacher professionalism, with a focus on the context of Islamic Religious Education (PAI), including the required competency standards and the legal foundations governing it in Indonesia. Through an analysis of Law No. 14 of 2005 on Teachers and Lecturers, the competencies of PAI teachers are summarized into four main categories: pedagogical, personality, social, and professional. This legal framework provides legitimate recognition and protection for educators, although challenges persist, such as inequalities in welfare for non-permanent teachers. This discussion highlights the urgency of strengthening professionalism to realize the mandate of the 1945 Constitution regarding the enlightenment of national life.

Abstract

This study examines students’ understanding and practice of Human Rights (HR) at SMA Negeri 8 Seluma as part of strengthening civic education in schools. Human Rights education is essential for developing democratic and responsible citizens; however, discrepancies often exist between conceptual knowledge and real-life behavior among adolescents. This research aims to describe students’ level of understanding of fundamental HR principles and analyze how these values are practiced in daily school life. Using a qualitative descriptive method, data were collected from 12 students selected through purposive sampling, supported by interviews with a Civics teacher. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews, observations of student interactions, and documentation of school regulations and HR literacy activities. The results show that students generally understand basic HR concepts such as freedom of expression, the right to protection, equality, and non-discrimination. Nonetheless, inconsistencies remain in practice, indicated by teasing, verbal bullying, and unequal treatment among peers. Positive practices were found in gender equality and religious tolerance, yet challenges persist, including peer influence, immature communication patterns, and limited experiential-based HR education. The study concludes that HR understanding at the cognitive level is relatively good, but its implementation requires strengthening through school culture, modeling, and character-based activities. The findings contribute to the development of contextual HR education strategies in Indonesian secondary schools.

Abstract

This study investigates the moral challenges emerging from the rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the context of Islamic Religious Education (PAI). The research is motivated by growing concerns related to declining empathy, reduced social interaction, digital dependence, and the spread of unverified religious information among students. The purpose of this study is to analyze the phenomenon of value degradation influenced by AI, identify potential moral risks, and formulate strategies for strengthening Islamic character education in the digital era. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with library research methods, data were collected from reputable books, journal articles, and academic reports published within the last five years. The data were analyzed through the Miles and Huberman interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, supported by triangulation of sources to test validity. The findings show that AI has ambivalent effects: it provides learning efficiency and digital access to Islamic resources, yet simultaneously weakens students’ reflective thinking, independence, spiritual awareness, and moral responsibility. The study also identifies critical risks such as misinformation, diminished self-control, erosion of discipline, and moral disorientation caused by excessive reliance on intelligent technologies. Furthermore, Islamic character education is found to play a strategic role in counterbalancing these risks through the reinforcement of core Islamic values, digital Islamic literacy, teacher role modeling, and ethical integration of AI in learning. The study concludes that strengthening Islamic character education is essential to prevent moral crises and guide students in using AI responsibly and ethically.
