Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using three-dimensional media in the form of cube nets on the spatial visualization abilities of sixth-grade students in geometry at SDN Payaman. This study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design involving two groups of students, namely the group that received learning using three-dimensional cube net media and the group that received conventional learning. Data collection was conducted through spatial visualization ability tests administered before and after the treatment. The research procedure included the stages of planning, preparing learning tools, implementing learning, collecting data, and processing data systematically. Data analysis used descriptive statistical techniques to describe the data and inferential techniques to compare the improvement in ability between the two groups. The results showed that the use of three-dimensional cube net media resulted in a higher increase in spatial visualization skills compared to conventional learning. Students demonstrated a better understanding in recognizing shapes, mentally rotating objects, and connecting two-dimensional and three-dimensional representations. The conclusion of this study states that three-dimensional cube net media has a positive effect on students' spatial visualization skills and can be used as an alternative learning medium for geometry material.

Abstract

The growth of sophisticated conversational artificial intelligence (AI) technology has had a large impact on higher education, but there is limited empirical research into its effectiveness for developing oral-aural skills. Although AI for language learning has previously focused on text-based skills, the development of powerful voice interaction technology opens up new opportunities for pedagogy. This paper fills this gap by examining the effect of ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode on the oral proficiency development of EFL learners at a university level. Following a mixed methods explanatory sequential model design, this study quantitatively determined the improvements in learners' oral proficiency over an intervention period of 8 weeks. The next phase was qualitative, where we elicited learners' perspectives and experiences though semi-structured interviews. Quantitative findings indicate that fluency and lexical resource significantly improved, but pronunciation was found not to improve significantly. This discrepancy was promoted through qualitative data, focusing on three main themes: the AI's potential for low-anxiety rehearsal spaces, learners' annoyance with the tool's lack of nuanced feedback about accent phenomena and the difficulty associated with its real-time corrective function. The experimental results indicate that ChatGPT’s voice mode is a powerful tool to help develop learners’ confidence and fluency in conversation, but is best used as an adjunctive instrument with other means of pedagogical support. It cannot take the place of the subtle, phonetic and pragmatic model that teacher- led instruction provides. These results inform a proposed underpinning "Blended Dialogic Model" to incorporate conversational AI in language curriculum, focusing on technology-mediated practice and expert human tutorial working synergistically.

Abstract

Digital technology development requires prospective elementary school teachers to possess adequate digital literacy competencies to design twenty-first-century learning effectively. One learning medium that can facilitate this competency is an interactive electronic book integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). This study aimed to describe the validity of a STEM-based interactive e-book on science learning designed to foster digital literacy skills among undergraduate students. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the Four-D (4D) development model consisting of Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate stages. This article focuses on the Develop stage, particularly expert validation. Validation data were collected using material and media validation sheets with a four-point rating scale. Data were analyzed descriptively by calculating the average score for each validation aspect. The results indicated that the interactive e-book achieved an average score of 3.89 from the material expert, categorized as very valid, while the media expert evaluation resulted in an average score of 3.44, also categorized as very valid. The highest scores were obtained in material suitability, completeness, and language quality, while the media aspects demonstrated excellent visual design, interactivity, usability, and STEM integration. Therefore, the developed STEM-based interactive e-book is considered feasible for use as a learning medium to foster digital literacy skills among prospective elementary school teachers
