Abstract

ABSTRACT Islamic Religious Education (Pendidikan Agama Islam/PAI) plays a significant role in shaping students’ religious and social character, particularly in addressing the challenges of globalization and rapid technological advancement. However, the internalization of these values continues to face various challenges, stemming from environmental influences, digital media exposure, and limitations in instructional strategies. This study was conducted to examine and describe the strategies implemented by Islamic Religious Education teachers in fostering and developing students’ religious and social character at MTs Pembangunan Jakarta. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis. The research subjects included Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers, students, and school leaders as well as educational staff within the school environment. Data were analyzed systematically through the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The findings indicate that the efforts of Islamic Religious Education teachers in cultivating students’ religious and social character are realized through role modeling, habituation of worship practices, integration of character values into the learning process, and reinforcement through religious and extracurricular activities. These strategies contribute positively to improving students’ discipline in worship, empathy, responsibility, and cooperation. Nevertheless, the study also identified obstacles, particularly the influence of social media and peer environments. Therefore, integrated collaboration among teachers, school administrators, and parents is essential to strengthen the continuous and sustainable development of students’ character. ABSTRAK Pendidikan Agama Islam (PAI) menempati posisi yang signifikan dalam proses pembentukan karakter keagamaan dan sosial peserta didik, khususnya dalam menghadapi dinamika globalisasi serta perkembangan teknologi yang semakin pesat. Namun, proses internalisasi nilai-nilai tersebut masih menghadapi berbagai kendala, baik dari faktor lingkungan, media digital, maupun keterbatasan strategi pembelajaran. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk mengkaji dan mendeskripsikan strategi yang diterapkan oleh guru Pendidikan Agama Islam dalam membina serta mengembangkan karakter religius dan sosial peserta didik di MTs Pembangunan Jakarta. Penelitian ini menerapkan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif, dengan metode pengumpulan data yang dilakukan melalui kegiatan observasi, wawancara, serta studi dokumentasi. Subjek dalam penelitian ini mencakup guru Pendidikan Agama Islam (PAI), peserta didik, serta unsur pimpinan dan tenaga kependidikan di lingkungan sekolah. Data dianalisis dengan mengikuti tahapan reduksi data, penyajian atau display data, serta proses verifikasi dan penarikan kesimpulan secara sistematis. Temuan penelitian mengindikasikan bahwa upaya guru Pendidikan Agama Islam dalam membangun karakter religius dan sosial peserta didik diwujudkan melalui pemberian keteladanan, pembiasaan praktik ibadah, pengintegrasian nilai-nilai karakter ke dalam kegiatan pembelajaran, serta penguatan melalui aktivitas keagamaan dan program ekstrakurikuler. Strategi tersebut berkontribusi positif terhadap peningkatan kedisiplinan beribadah, sikap empati, tanggung jawab, dan kerja sama peserta didik. Meskipun demikian, penelitian ini juga menemukan adanya hambatan berupa pengaruh media sosial dan lingkungan pergaulan. Dengan demikian, diperlukan kolaborasi yang terintegrasi antara guru, pihak sekolah, dan orang tua guna memperkokoh proses pembinaan karakter peserta didik secara konsisten dan berkesinambungan.
