Abstract

General Background: In the digital learning era, storytelling plays a critical role in developing students' speaking skills and creativity. However, traditional teaching methods often fail to foster students' confidence and engagement. Specific Background: Teachers at SD Inpres Hartaco Indah face challenges in guiding students with low storytelling confidence and limited access to engaging learning media. Knowledge Gap: While visual and animated media are known to enhance student engagement, there is limited empirical evidence on the use of Canva-based audiovisual media to improve storytelling skills in elementary students. Aims: This study aimed to develop and assess a Canva-based audiovisual animation learning media to improve storytelling skills among fourth-grade students. Results: The media was developed using the ADDIE model and validated by experts, receiving feasibility scores above 91%. Implementation in a real classroom showed very positive responses: ease of use (98.21%), visual appeal (96.55%), reliability (96.69%), and content quality (95.98%). Students demonstrated significant improvements in eight storytelling aspects, including expression, structure, and confidence. Novelty: This study presents a novel integration of Canva-based audiovisual design tailored to elementary learners' cognitive characteristics. Implications: The findings support Canva audiovisual media as a practical, effective tool for enhancing 21st-century storytelling skills and can be adapted across subjects and educational levels.Highlight : Canva's audio-visual animation-based media helps improve students' storytelling skills. Development uses a systematic and flexible ADDIE model. The media has proven to be highly feasible, practical, and effective based on validation and implementation results. Abstract

Limited reading resources and unengaging textual formats often hinder student literacy development in primary classrooms. General Background Limited reading resources and unengaging textual formats often hinder student literacy development in primary classrooms. Specific Background Indonesian language education relies on textual materials that fail to capture student engagement, leading to diminished reading motivation in elementary schools. Knowledge Gap Although digital design tools exist, research integrating specific regional traditions like the Kajang community into interactive digital comic frameworks remains limited. Aims This study aimed to develop a local wisdom-based comic using Canva and examine its validity, practicality, and effectiveness for fourth-grade students. Results The comic achieved a 94% media validation score, a 92% teacher response rate, and an evaluation score increase from 50% to 82%. Novelty The integration of Kajang indigenous culture into a Canva-assisted digital comic provides a contextualized reading repository for elementary students. Implications This digital media serves as a practical alternative for educators to improve literacy rates and cultural awareness in primary education. Highlights The Canva application enabled the design of an interactive digital comic incorporating Kajang indigenous culture. Expert evaluations confirmed the validity and high practical applicability of the developed comic media. Student evaluation scores demonstrated substantial improvements following the implementation of the reading media. Abstract

General Background Elementary language education requires engaging pedagogical approaches to develop foundational literacy and cognitive abilities. Specific Background Current instructional practices at Biringkaloro Public Elementary School remain predominantly teacher-centered, resulting in passive participation and difficulties in text comprehension among third-grade learners. Knowledge Gap Although digital design platforms offer interactive solutions, the specific integration of customized digital board media to simultaneously address reading comprehension and logical reasoning in primary education remains underexplored. Aims This study develops a valid, practical, and functional digital educational medium to elevate analytical abilities and academic achievement in Indonesian language subjects. Results Following the ADDIE research and development framework with thirty third-grade subjects, expert validations yielded highly acceptable scores for both media and material quality. Furthermore, the intervention recorded excellent practicality scores from teacher and learner responses, alongside significant pretest-posttest improvements demonstrated by a paired t-test (p < 0.001) and moderate N-Gain scores for analytical reasoning and academic achievement. Novelty The research introduces unique mechanics embedding specific analytical reading prompts within a highly visual, accessible digital design platform specifically tailored for young learners. Implications Deploying this interactive medium provides educators with a highly viable instructional tool to transform passive classrooms into dynamic, student-centered educational environments that support foundational literacy. Highlights The ADDIE development framework successfully produced a highly valid and practical interactive medium for language instruction. Digital board mechanisms significantly stimulated student engagement and transformed passive classroom dynamics into active participation. Statistical evaluations confirmed notable academic progression and improved analytical reading abilities among primary-level participants.
