Abstract

Kendari Botanical Garden is an ex situ plant conservation area that has the functions of conservation, research, education, tourism and environmental services. In the area there are many pine trees (Pinus merkusii Jungh. & de Vriese) which are known to be symbiotic with ectomycorrhizal fungi. The purpose of this study was to determine the diversity of ectomycorrhizal morphotypes under pine stands in Kendari Botanical Garden. This research was conducted from September to October 2020. The research method used was purposive sampling, including plot making, root sampling and characterisation and identification of root morphotypes. Morphotype characterisation used the colour atlas of ectomychorrizae guide while the percentage of colonisation was calculated using the gridline intersection method. Pinus merkusii formed 7 ectomycorrhizal morphotypes namely simple very pole brown, dichotomous light yellowish brown, dichotomous brownish yellow, monopodial-pinnate reddish black, irregularly pinnate very dark grey, coralloid dark brown and coralloid very dark grey. The simple very pole brown morphotype was the type with the highest relative abundance and species richness index with a root colonisation percentage of 36.43%. The ectomycorrhizal diversity index in P. merkusii is in the high category with a value of 3.45

Abstract

This research focuses on the diversity of ectomycorrhizal morphotypes and their structures in Melinjo trees (Gnetum gnemon) found in the Lamedai Nature Reserve, Kolaka. The study aims to comprehend the complexity of the symbiotic relationship between Melinjo and ectomycorrhiza, and to identify and analyze the existing variations in ectomycorrhiza morphotypes. Data collection methods include field surveys and morphological microscopic analysis. Melinjo forms five ectomycorrhizal morphotypes with characteristics such as simple white, simple dark gray, tawny monopodial pinnate, dark red irregular pinnate, and fawn irregular pinnate. The simple white morphotype showed a relatively high abundance and a significant species richness index, with a root colonization percentage reaching 33.09%. Ectomycorrhizal diversity in Melinjo was assessed as moderate with an index value of 1.79. It is hoped that the results of this research will provide in-depth insight into the role of ectomycorrhiza in the Melinjo ecosystem in the region, as well as its contribution to the diversity of soil microbiota flora

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the ultra-basic vegetation diversity in the Nanga-Nanga Papalia Protected Forest, Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi. The study was conducted in May to June 2023, covering an area of 42 hectares within the Nanga-Nanga Papalia Protected Forest. The sampling intensity was set at 5% over a study area of 2.1 hectares, resulting in 52 sampling plots arranged using the Line Transect method. The findings revealed that the ultra-basic vegetation diversity across all vegetation levels in the protected forest was classified as low, with values of 1.25 for trees, 1.22 for saplings, 1.27 for poles, and 1.13 for seedlings

Abstract

Abstract

Mangrove forests play an important role in maintaining the balance of coastal ecosystems and supporting community welfare; however, their economic utilization has not been thoroughly calculated. This study aims to analyze the economic value of mangrove ecosystem utilization in Labone Village, Lasalepa Subdistrict, Muna Regency. The research was conducted from January to February 2025 using quantitative and qualitative methods. The quantitative approach was applied to calculate the economic value of mangrove utilization, while the qualitative approach was used to describe the socio-economic conditions of the community. Data were collected through observation, interviews using questionnaires, and documentation, with a total of 21 respondents consisting of 20 fishermen and 1 tourism manager (BUMDes). The results show that the direct benefits from mangrove forests, in the form of fish and crab catches, reached IDR 370,446,000/year (94%), while the indirect benefits from mangrove tracking ecotourism contributed IDR 20,832,000/year (6%). Overall, the total economic value of the mangrove ecosystem in Labone Village is IDR 391,278,000/year. These findings confirm that mangrove ecosystems provide a significant contribution to the coastal community’s economy, highlighting the need for sustainable management.
