Abstract

Out-of-school education (OECD) is an integral part of the national education system, encompassing non-formal and informal education within families and communities. This study aims to examine the role, challenges, and strategic solutions of OECD in supporting formal education, particularly in the digital era and post-pandemic. Through a literature review of various recent studies, it was found that OECD makes a significant contribution to character building, equitable access to education, and life skills development. However, OECD still faces several challenges such as socioeconomic disparities, low digital literacy, minimal parental involvement, fragmentation of community-based programs, and the significant impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on access to and quality of learning. This study recommends strengthening collaboration between schools, families, and communities, improving digital literacy, and integrating community programs to strengthen the role of OECD in realizing inclusive and sustainable education.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the development of curriculum innovation for Islamic Religious Guidance (BAI) in Muhammadiyah schools in Karanganyar, using a values-based approach grounded in Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan (AIK). Muhammadiyah schools play a strategic role in shaping students' character to be religious, progressive, and morally upright. However, the BAI curriculum still faces challenges in terms of relevance and contextualization of AIK values in the modern era. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach with data collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis at several Muhammadiyah schools in Karanganyar. The findings reveal that some schools have introduced innovations by integrating AIK values into thematic learning, implementing character-based tahfiz programs, encouraging daily worship habits, and utilizing digital media for student da’wah. Core AIK values—such as monotheism (tauhid), ethics (akhlak), enjoining good and forbidding wrong (amar ma’ruf nahi munkar), and renewal (tajdid)—are embedded not only in instructional materials but also in the school's culture. Nonetheless, challenges remain, including limited human resources of innovative AIK teachers, lack of curriculum development training, and minimal synergy between schools and the Muhammadiyah Education Council. The article recommends strengthening AIK teacher training, developing a contextual curriculum model based on local Karanganyar wisdom, and fostering active collaboration between schools and Muhammadiyah organizational structures to support the transformation toward progressive Islamic education.

Abstract

Avoid writing abbreviations, acronyms, or mathematical symbols in the abstract. Abstract of research results article contains brief background, objectives, methods, research results This paper explores the Qur'an's conceptual contributions to the development of Islamic educational psychology, particularly in the formation of learners' character and the optimization of their innate potential. It investigates how the Qur’an incorporates foundational psychological principles through three key educational approaches: spiritual motivation, prophetic exemplarity and behavioral habituation, and behavioral reinforcement via reward and punishment mechanisms. Employing a qualitative library research method, the study analyzes selected Qur'anic verses through the lens of educational psychology. The results indicate that Qur'anic motivation transcends material incentives, emphasizing a hereafter-oriented worldview. Prophetic role modeling and repeated righteous actions are shown to be effective in value internalization, while reinforcement through promised rewards and warned punishments is structured pedagogically and proportionately.  These findings affirm the Qur’an as a comprehensive source for the development of Islamic educational psychology.

Abstract

Tarikh (Islamic history) education, as a part of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at the elementary school level, plays a vital role in instilling exemplary values and shaping students' character. However, in practice, tarikh learning is often delivered monotonously through lectures and text readings, which leads to low student interest. This study aims to develop a storytelling-based tarikh learning media in the form of video that aligns with the learning characteristics of elementary students, in order to enhance their interest and engagement in the learning process. The study employs the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The needs analysis results indicate that elementary students prefer visual and interactive story-based media. The instructional video was designed in an engaging narrative format, complemented by animations and illustrations to support the content on the secret propagation (dakwah) of Prophet Muhammad SAW. The media was validated by subject matter and media experts, and underwent limited trials with fourth-grade students at SD ASC Karanganyar. The validation results and user responses show that the developed video is valid, practical, and effective in increasing student interest in tarikh material. The study concludes that storytelling-based learning media can be an innovative solution to address the low interest in learning Islamic history at the elementary school level.

Abstract

Diagnostic tests are essential assessment instruments used to identify students’ initial learning conditions, including misconceptions, learning difficulties, and readiness to engage with instructional materials. Unlike summative assessments that emphasize final outcomes, diagnostic tests focus on students’ cognitive processes, providing teachers with in-depth information to design appropriate instructional strategies. This article aims to comprehensively examine the concept of diagnostic testing, including its characteristics, target users, nature, development procedures, and the utilization of diagnostic test results to enhance learning effectiveness and support differentiated instruction. This study employs a library research method by reviewing various academic sources, including books and national and international journal articles related to diagnostic assessment and educational evaluation. The findings indicate that diagnostic tests are characterized by their implementation prior to instruction, their non-summative function, and their ability to identify conceptual errors and learning barriers. The development of diagnostic tests must follow systematic steps, such as defining objectives, constructing test blueprints, developing test items, conducting validity and reliability testing, and revising instruments based on trial results. Furthermore, the utilization of diagnostic test results enables teachers to plan remedial and enrichment programs as well as implement differentiated learning strategies tailored to students’ needs. Therefore, diagnostic tests serve as a fundamental tool in adaptive instructional planning and contribute significantly to the continuous improvement of educational quality.
