Abstract

Education in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) not only focuses on religious knowledge but also emphasizes character development, especially for female students (santriwati) who carry dual responsibilities. Challenges in maintaining consistency between worship and daily productive activities often arise due to low self-awareness and lack of structured tools. This article explores the effectiveness of the Habit Tracker as a printed medium to support positive habit formation and productivity among santriwati, using behaviorist theory and Islamic values. The study adopts a library research method with a qualitative descriptive approach. The findings indicate that the Habit Tracker can help santriwati build discipline, manage their time, and enhance spiritual self-awareness in a consistent and independent manner.

Abstract

In the ever-evolving world of education, educators are required to find effective methods for shaping students' character. One relevant and proven effective method is the habituation method. This study aims to describe the role of the habituation method in shaping student discipline in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) as character education institutions. This study used a qualitative approach with a literature review, through a review of various literature discussing character, discipline, and habituation methods. The results show that the habituation method, when implemented consistently and repeatedly, is able to instill positive values such as discipline in students. This process is supported by the role of the kyai (Islamic religious leader) as a role model and supervisor who is directly involved in fostering student behavior. In Islamic boarding schools, education takes place holistically, encompassing spiritual, social, and moral aspects, making habituation a strategic approach in shaping student personality. The conclusion of this study confirms that the habituation method needs to be strengthened within the Islamic boarding school curriculum system as an effective and applicable model of character education.

Abstract

Tarikh (Islamic history) education, as a part of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at the elementary school level, plays a vital role in instilling exemplary values and shaping students' character. However, in practice, tarikh learning is often delivered monotonously through lectures and text readings, which leads to low student interest. This study aims to develop a storytelling-based tarikh learning media in the form of video that aligns with the learning characteristics of elementary students, in order to enhance their interest and engagement in the learning process. The study employs the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The needs analysis results indicate that elementary students prefer visual and interactive story-based media. The instructional video was designed in an engaging narrative format, complemented by animations and illustrations to support the content on the secret propagation (dakwah) of Prophet Muhammad SAW. The media was validated by subject matter and media experts, and underwent limited trials with fourth-grade students at SD ASC Karanganyar. The validation results and user responses show that the developed video is valid, practical, and effective in increasing student interest in tarikh material. The study concludes that storytelling-based learning media can be an innovative solution to address the low interest in learning Islamic history at the elementary school level.

Abstract

This study aims to examine and formulate evaluation criteria for Quranic learning implemented through the Ummi Method. As a systematic approach to Quranic recitation, the Ummi Method emphasizes tartil (intelligible text), mutqin (intelligible text), and is based on quality standards. However, to ensure its effective implementation, an evaluation instrument appropriate to the method's characteristics is required. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies at educational institutions implementing the Ummi Method. The results indicate that the evaluation criteria for Quranic learning using the Ummi Method encompass three main aspects: (1) cognitive aspects, including mastery of tajweed and makharijul huruf (letter pronunciation); (2) psychomotor aspects, including fluency, accuracy, and aesthetics of recitation; and (3) affective aspects, including attitudes and etiquette toward the Quran. With these criteria, learning evaluation becomes more focused and able to measure learning outcomes holistically. This research is expected to serve as a reference for teachers, institutional administrators, and curriculum developers in improving the quality of Quranic learning based on the Ummi Method.
