Abstract

Education must foster the nation's philosophical and cultural values holistically and comprehensively. Therefore, a more in-depth study of education is necessary. Educational institutions often experience problems with students. This is because teachers do not fully understand students' needs. Teachers often act carelessly during the learning process. Teachers often ignore evaluation results in learning. When this occurs, it will cause problems. In regional, national, and international forums, to perform well in international forums, teachers must understand the extent of students' abilities. Teachers need to understand the concepts and procedures for conducting learning evaluations so that student abilities can be detected and then followed up as needed. One way to conduct learning evaluations is through tests. There are many types of tests administered to determine student abilities. Teachers need to understand this so that when they administer tests, they can be targeted and meet needs. If this can be achieved, the learning process will certainly develop and will influence the quality of students.

Abstract

Learning evaluation is a crucial component of the educational process, including in Islamic Religious Education (PAI). It serves not only to assess the extent of students' achievement of learning objectives but also as a reflective tool for teachers to improve teaching methods, media, and strategies. However, many PAI teachers still face challenges in conducting evaluations manually, such as time-consuming calculations, potential errors, and limited technological proficiency. The use of Microsoft Excel offers an effective and efficient solution for these issues. Equipped with features like automatic formulas, tables, and charts, Excel helps teachers process student scores, analyze learning outcomes, and prepare systematic and accurate reports. Moreover, Excel utilization supports the development of teachers' digital literacy, aligning with 21st-century education demands and the "Merdeka Belajar" (Freedom to Learn) policy. This research employs a library research method to explore the concepts, challenges, and benefits of using Excel in PAI learning evaluation, aiming to provide practical insights for improving the quality and effectiveness of evaluation in schools.

Abstract

The evaluation of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning requires an objective, accurate, and data-based approach to measure students' cognitive, affective, and psychomotor achievements. This paper discusses the use of statistical applications as scientific instruments in improving the quality of PAI learning evaluation in the digital era. The purpose of this writing is to explain the definition, urgency, types of statistical applications, as well as their advantages and disadvantages in the context of PAI evaluation. The discussion covers five main statistical applications: Microsoft Excel for simple data processing and grade visualization, ITEMAN for item analysis based on Classical Test Theory, SPSS for validity and reliability testing of instruments and inferential analysis, SmartPLS for model testing based on PLS-SEM with latent variables, and LISREL for covariance-based structural analysis. The study results show that the use of statistical applications makes significant contributions to improving assessment objectivity, testing the quality of evaluation instruments, facilitating data-driven decision making, and increasing time efficiency and learning accountability. However, its implementation still faces obstacles such as low statistical literacy among teachers, limited facilities, and minimal professional training. This paper recommends the need to improve PAI teachers' competencies through continuous training, provision of technological infrastructure by schools and government, and strengthening of prospective PAI teacher curricula with applied statistics courses so that PAI learning evaluation becomes more scientific, effective, and relevant to the demands of contemporary development.

Abstract

Item analysis plays a crucial role in educational evaluation to ensure that assessment instruments are valid, reliable, and fair. This study discusses the application of Classical Test Theory (CTT) in analyzing the quality of test items, particularly in the evaluation of Islamic Education (PAI) learning. The analysis focuses on item difficulty index, discrimination index, distractor effectiveness, and test reliability. A quantitative approach was employed by analyzing students’ test response data using classical item analysis procedures that can be implemented through simple tools such as Microsoft Excel. The discussion indicates that classical item analysis effectively identifies high-quality items as well as items that require revision or elimination. Moreover, this approach is considered practical, economical, and easy to apply for teachers, especially within the context of the Independent Curriculum (Kurikulum Merdeka). Despite its limitations, including sample dependency, Classical Test Theory remains a relevant and effective method for improving the quality of assessment and learning outcomes in Islamic Education.

Abstract

Measurement, evaluation, and assessment are essential components of the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning process because they play a role in assessing the achievement of overall educational goals. This study aims to examine the meaning of measurement, evaluation, and assessment and to explain the purpose and function of evaluation in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning. The research method used is library research, analyzing various sources, including books, scientific journals, and documents related to PAI learning evaluation. The results of the study indicate that measurement is the process of assigning scores to students' abilities, assessment is the systematic collection of information about the learning process and outcomes, and evaluation is the activity of making decisions based on the results of measurement and assessment. Evaluation in PAI learning aims to determine students' level of understanding, attitudes, and practice of Islamic values. It also serves as a feedback tool to improve the learning process, enhance the quality of learning, and assist teachers in determining follow-up actions. Therefore, a comprehensive understanding of the concepts of measurement, assessment, and evaluation is essential for the effective implementation of PAI learning evaluation and its alignment with the goals of Islamic education.

Abstract

Reliability is a series of measurements or a set of measuring instruments that have consistency when measurements made with the measuring instrument are carried out repeatedly. Reliability is one of the criteria that must be met by a measuring instrument before being used to collect data. The concept of reliability refers to the consistency of the score results on the items contained in the questionnaire, so that the reliability test actually examines the accuracy of the measurement scales of the research instrument. A research instrument, for example a questionnaire, is declared reliable if the instrument can provide consistent score results in each measurement. Thus, the measuring instrument (statement items/questions) continues to provide consistent measurement results at different times.

Abstract

Diagnostic tests are essential assessment instruments used to identify students’ initial learning conditions, including misconceptions, learning difficulties, and readiness to engage with instructional materials. Unlike summative assessments that emphasize final outcomes, diagnostic tests focus on students’ cognitive processes, providing teachers with in-depth information to design appropriate instructional strategies. This article aims to comprehensively examine the concept of diagnostic testing, including its characteristics, target users, nature, development procedures, and the utilization of diagnostic test results to enhance learning effectiveness and support differentiated instruction. This study employs a library research method by reviewing various academic sources, including books and national and international journal articles related to diagnostic assessment and educational evaluation. The findings indicate that diagnostic tests are characterized by their implementation prior to instruction, their non-summative function, and their ability to identify conceptual errors and learning barriers. The development of diagnostic tests must follow systematic steps, such as defining objectives, constructing test blueprints, developing test items, conducting validity and reliability testing, and revising instruments based on trial results. Furthermore, the utilization of diagnostic test results enables teachers to plan remedial and enrichment programs as well as implement differentiated learning strategies tailored to students’ needs. Therefore, diagnostic tests serve as a fundamental tool in adaptive instructional planning and contribute significantly to the continuous improvement of educational quality.

Abstract

A diagnostic test is a form of evaluation conducted before the start of learning to identify students' initial abilities, strengths, weaknesses, and misconceptions. In the context of Islamic Religious Education (PAI), this test plays a crucial role in determining students' readiness to learn, including cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects. With diagnostic test results, teachers can design more targeted learning, provide remedial classes, and tailor enrichment programs to meet students' needs. This paper discusses the definition of diagnostic tests, the purpose of their application in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning, the types of diagnostic tests, both cognitive and non-cognitive, and the steps involved in developing them. The discussion demonstrates that diagnostic tests are not only an evaluation tool but also an instrument for improving the learning process to make it more effective, adaptive, and oriented to student needs.
