Abstract

Purpose: This study examines how entrepreneurial education, opportunity orientation, and advantage interact to enhance entrepreneurs' performance in international markets. It aims to provide insights to strengthen SME competitiveness worldwide. Methodology/approach: This study employs a quantitative survey, distributing questionnaires to 101 active entrepreneurs in the export-import and cross-border business sectors. The data were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling, with variables based on validated literature. Results: The findings show that entrepreneurial opportunities and entrepreneurial orientation significantly influence firm performance, whereas entrepreneurial education and entrepreneurial advantage do not, reinforcing prior studies on opportunity recognition, proactiveness, innovation, and risk-taking as global success factors. Conclusions: The findings of this study indicate that the performance of international firms is largely and consistently influenced by entrepreneurial opportunity recognition and entrepreneurial orientation, highlighting the crucial role of proactive, innovative, and risk-taking behaviors in achieving superior outcomes in international markets. In contrast, entrepreneurial education and entrepreneurial advantage do not show a statistically significant direct effect on international firm performance, suggesting that formal knowledge acquisition and perceived competitive strengths may contribute only indirectly or through other mediating factors rather than exerting an immediate impact. Limitations: This study is limited by its small sample size and focus on entrepreneurs already active in international business. Future research should consider additional factors, such as market access, digitalization, and organizational culture. Contributions: This study highlights the key drivers of international firm performance and offers guidance for entrepreneurs, educators, and policymakers to enhance competitiveness, improve curricula, and shape supportive policies.

Abstract

Purpose: The objective of this investigation is to identify the variables that affect purchase intention, including product quality, service quality, e-WOM, and brand image. Methodology/approach: The method used is quantitative. The result source is the Google Form questionnaire. Results/findings: This study's findings reveal that product quality, EWOM, and brand image are proven to have a significant influence on purchase intention. However, the service quality variable has not been proven to influence purchase intention significantly. Conclusions: The results indicate that consumers’ purchase intention toward luxury cosmetic brands is primarily shaped by tangible product performance, strong brand reputation, and credible online word-of-mouth communication. Service quality, while still relevant for customer retention, does not play a critical role at the intention stage. Thus, luxury cosmetic managers should focus more on strengthening product excellence, managing e-WOM credibility, and reinforcing consistent brand image across digital channels. Limitations: The results are based on a single-city cross-sectional survey of Batam consumers and rely on self-reported evidence quantitative, which may limit generalizability and introduce common method bias. Future studies should use longitudinal or multicity designs, incorporate objective behavioural measures, and test moderator variables (e.g., customer satisfaction or brand loyalty) to deepen causal insights. Contribution: The findings suggest that luxury cosmetic brand managers should prioritize superior product quality, active management of electronic word-of-mouth promotion, and consistent brand image building to enhance purchase intention; service quality, while necessary for loyalty, appears to be less determinant at the intention stage.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to examine how social media influencers affect the purchase intentions of Muslim consumers in Batam City toward halal cosmetic products, emphasizing their mediating role in product quality, brand equity, credibility, and information usefulness. Methodology/approach: A quantitative survey method was used. Data were gathered through an online questionnaire from 308 Muslim women in Batam who had been exposed to halal cosmetic content by beauty influencers. Purposive sampling was applied, and Smart PLS 4 was used for data analysis. Results/findings: Product quality, brand equity, information credibility, and information usefulness positively influence perceptions of social media influencers. These influencers significantly affect purchase intentions and mediate the relationship between the four antecedent factors and consumers’ intentions to buy. Conclusions: Social media influencers play a crucial mediating role in shaping Muslim consumers' purchase intentions for halal cosmetics. Strategic collaboration with credible influencers and the promotion of relevant, Sharia-compliant content are essential for effective digital marketing in the halal cosmetic industry. Limitations: The study focuses only on Muslim women in Batam and uses online surveys, excluding emotional or subjective factors. Other variables like price, packaging, and availability were not analyzed. Contribution: This study extends the Theory of Planned Behavior in digital marketing and offers practical guidance for halal cosmetic businesses in designing influencer-based strategies.

Abstract

Purpose: This study investigates the impact of brand warmth and brand competence on consumers repurchase intentions for local fashion brands in Indonesia, focusing on Batam City. Grounded in the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) and the Stereotype Content Model (SCM), this study examines consumer engagement as a mediating factor and influencer marketing as a moderating variable. Research Methodology: A quantitative method was employed, and responses from 446 participants in Indonesia were collected using structured questionnaires. Data were analyzed using SmartPLS 3. Results: The findings revealed that brand warmth significantly enhanced repurchase intention, whereas brand competence did not. However, warmth and competence substantially increased consumer engagement, positively mediating the relationship with repurchase intention. Additionally, influencer marketing strengthens the effect of brand perception on consumer engagement. Conclusions: These insights suggest that emotional perception (warmth) is a stronger driver of consumer loyalty than functional perception (competence), and that influencer-driven strategies can effectively boost brand-consumer connections. Limitations: This study focuses only on local fashion brands in Indonesia, especially bags and wallets; therefore, the results may not apply to other products or industries. The study was conducted only in Indonesia and mainly involved female consumers. Contributions: This study makes a significant theoretical contribution by integrating the TPB and SCM into the local branding context, particularly by emphasizing emotional branding and influencer partnerships to enhance sustained consumer engagement and loyalty in the competitive local fashion market.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors influencing consumers’ purchase intention toward imported food products in Batam City, with a particular focus on the role of trust. The background of this research is the increasing circulation of imported food products in Batam as a free trade zone, which intensifies competition with local products and raises concerns related to consumer trust. This study addresses the problem of how attitude, brand image, country of origin, price, and product quality influence trust and how trust affects purchase intention. A quantitative research approach was employed by distributing structured questionnaires to 363 respondents who had purchased imported food products in Batam City. The collected data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 3.0. The results indicate that attitude, brand image, country of origin, price, and product quality have a positive and significant effect on trust. Among these factors, brand image is identified as the most influential in building consumer trust. Furthermore, trust has a strong and significant effect on purchase intention toward imported food products. These findings emphasize the importance of trust in shaping consumers’ purchasing decisions and provide practical insights for businesses in strengthening trust to enhance purchase intention in the imported food market.
