Abstract

The development of the modern era and increasingly intense competition among educational institutions require madrasahs to improve the quality of education in order to remain competitive and attractive to society. Madrasahs are not only expected to preserve Islamic values but also to adapt to the advancement of science and technology. This study aims to analyze madrasah strategies in improving the competitiveness of Islamic education through a case study at MA Matholi’ul Huda Bugel, Jepara. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation studies. The research informants consisted of the principal, vice principals, teachers, educational staff, and students selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The results showed that strategies to enhance the competitiveness of Islamic education were implemented through: 1) improving learning quality using innovative methods; 2) developing teacher competencies through training and academic supervision; 3) strengthening religious culture through habituation of religious activities; 4) utilizing information technology in learning processes; and 5) developing flagship programs, particularly Tahfidz Al-Qur’an and student achievement coaching. Supporting factors included visionary leadership of the principal, collaboration among madrasah members, and parental support. Meanwhile, the obstacles faced included limited infrastructure, technological developments, and the heterogeneous abilities of students.

Abstract

Educational quality management is commonly implemented in urban formal institutions, yet it becomes unique and challenging when applied at MA Matholi'ul Huda Bugel, which is rooted in a traditional Islamic boarding school (pesantren) environment and a religious community. This study aims to describe the implementation of educational quality management in improving learning quality at MA Matholi'ul Huda Bugel. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Research subjects include the principal, vice-principal, teachers, educational staff, and students. Data analysis uses the Miles and Huberman model covering data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the implementation of educational quality management at MA Matholi'ul Huda Bugel is carried out through four main aspects: (1) structured and systematic learning planning; (2) improving teacher competence through training, workshops, MGMP, and academic supervision; (3) periodic learning evaluation followed by continuous improvement; and (4) strengthening quality culture through discipline, responsibility, and religious values in the madrasa environment. The principal plays a central role in building shared commitment among all educators to achieve educational quality goals. The involvement of students and parents is also a supporting factor in the success of improving learning quality.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of research-based curriculum management and its impact on graduate quality at MA NU Al Mustaqim Bugel Jepara, an Islamic senior secondary school in Central Java, Indonesia. The increasing demands of higher education institutions and the labor market have placed substantial pressure on secondary schools to produce graduates who possess not only academic competencies but also research literacy and critical thinking skills. Research-based curriculum management represents an innovative educational approach that integrates inquiry-driven learning, evidence-based pedagogical practices, and systematic curriculum evaluation into school governance. This qualitative case study was conducted over five months with 23 participants including school principals, curriculum coordinators, teachers, and students, supplemented by document analysis and classroom observations. Triangulation of sources and member checking ensured data credibility. Findings reveal that MA NU Al Mustaqim has implemented a three-phased research-based curriculum management model encompassing planning, implementation, and evaluation stages. Key outcomes include measurable improvements in students' critical thinking dispositions, enhanced teacher professional competency through action research, increased graduate acceptance rates at reputable higher education institutions (34% through SNBP in 2023 compared to 18% in 2021), and stronger school accreditation performance. Challenges identified include limited research infrastructure, insufficient teacher training in research methodology, curriculum overload concerns, and the need for stronger stakeholder alignment. This study contributes to the growing literature on curriculum innovation in Indonesian Islamic secondary schools and offers practical implications for educational policymakers and school administrators seeking to enhance institutional quality through research-integrated governance frameworks.

Abstract

Learning burnout significantly challenges junior high school students, especially within Islamic boarding-school-based environments (madrasahs) dealing with text-heavy religious subjects. This study aims to explore teachers' instructional strategies in mitigating learning burnout through digital learning media integration at MTs Masalikil Huda Tahunan, Jepara. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative case study approach, data were gathered through semi-structured interviews, passive classroom observations, and documentation. Informants were selected via purposive sampling, consisting of subject teachers, curriculum coordinators, school counselors, and representatives of affected students. The collected data were analyzed using Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña’s interactive model, encompassing data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that learning burnout was primarily driven by the cognitive gap between students' dynamic digital consumption habits outside school and monotone expository lecturing methods inside the classroom. To address this, teachers formulated targeted instructional strategies by integrating gamified platforms, deploying interactive digital pocketbooks, and converting the school's proprietary e-learning ecosystem into interactive discussion forums. These interventions effectively restored students' emotional engagement and enhanced cognitive memory retention by offering refreshing and immersive learning stimuli. Although well-supported by robust school broadband infrastructure, teachers faced ongoing challenges, including digital distractions in the classroom and a rising dependency on visual stimuli among students. This study concludes that the long-term efficacy of digital media in overcoming psychological fatigue relies heavily on a balanced pedagogical blend between cyber exploration and traditional deep reading comprehension.
