Abstract

This research is aimed to describe the procedure of mind mapping technique on teaching vocabulary and to know the improvement of students’ vocabulary mastery after teaching learning  vocabulary through mind mapping technique. In collecting the required data, the writer did test and questionnaire. The writer as teacher tried to apply mind mapping technique in teaching vocabulary mastery of students. The result of test show that mind mapping technique improved students’ vocabulary mastery. The result of the questionnaires show that most of the students agree that mind mapping is able to advance them, improve their vocabulary, expand their ideas, and increase their self confidence in learning. Key Words: Vocabulary, Mind Mapping.

Abstract

This research was conducted to find out the difficulties faced by students in understanding recount text, and the factors that cause these difficulties. To obtain data in this study, the researcher used two data collection techniques, namely observation and interview. Observation is used to collect data in class during the teaching learning process. Interview is intended to identify the causes of the students’ obstacles in understanding recount text. There were 6 students at eleventh grade of SMAN 1 Nisam who were used as subjects in this research. 2 students who have high academic achievement, 2 medium and 2 low. The result showed that they had many difficulties in understanding recount text, both internal and external factors. The internal factor is the lack of motivation. Besides, they also have difficulties in understanding the sentence structure in recount text. In addition, they also lack of vocabulary mastery, it makes them difficult and take a long time to understand a text in English. The external factors that cause their difficulties in understanding English texts are the lack of attention from their parents towards their achievement, especially towards English achievement. They also only have a little time to learn and practice English at their home because they are busy with other activities. The lack of supporting facilities such as English reading materials and dictionaries, it is also one of the factors causing students’ difficulties in understanding recount text.

Abstract

This study aims to explore and develop a learning program for children’s religious education at the Firya Lientas Housing Community in Lhokseumawe. The research employs an action research approach with qualitative methods to understand and enhance the effectiveness of the program. The methodology involves five main steps: problem identification, action planning, action implementation, observation and data collection, and reflection. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using qualitative techniques, including transcription, coding, thematic development, and data interpretation. The results indicate that the development of religious education activities has had a positive impact, as evidenced by increased understanding of religious values and the development of social-emotional skills. The increased support from parents, demonstrated by their willingness to contribute financially to the program and the establishment of active communication for mutual support, also reflects the positive impact of these activities. The active involvement of housewives who serve as religious teachers (ustazah) in imparting religious values, developing social-emotional skills, providing moral support, and planning the children’s religious education activities has helped enhance understanding of religious values and social-emotional skills through the development of teaching materials, implementation of interactive learning strategies, and ongoing evaluation. Based on these findings, additional training and preparation are needed for housewives who serve as teachers (ustazah) to better equip them to competently support children’s education.

Abstract

Perayaan Maulid Nabi Muhammad saw. di Gampong Meunasah Meucat, Kecamatan Nisam Kabupaten Aceh Utara merupakan acara yang sarat makna religius dan sosial. Kegiatan ini bukan hanya untuk memperingati kelahiran Rasulullah saw., tetapi juga sebagai wadah mempererat hubungan sosial, memperdalam pemahaman agama, serta melestarikan budaya lokal melalui tradisi Dikee Moled. Program pendampingan Dikee Moled bagi remaja bertujuan untuk membina karakter religius, memperkuat identitas budaya, serta menumbuhkan rasa kebersamaan dan gotong-royong di kalangan pemuda. Pendekatan edukatif dan relevan ini menjadi sarana efektif dalam menanamkan nilai-nilai Islam dan kearifan lokal pada generasi muda sekaligus melindungi para remaja dari pengaruh budaya modern yang kurang sejalan dengan nilai-nilai Islam. Hasil program ini menunjukkan peningkatan antusiasme dan pemahaman remaja terhadap sejarah Islam khususnya sejarah Nabi Muhammad saw. melalui syair-syair dalam Dikee Moled. Selain itu juga meningkatkan kecintaan kepada Nabi Muhammad saw., serta komitmen untuk melestarikan budaya Aceh. Melalui pendampingan ini, tradisi keagamaan dan kebudayaan Aceh yang bernilai positif tetap terjaga dan dapat berkelanjutan di tengah tantangan globalisasi.

Abstract

This research was concerned to find out strategies were used by the eighth grade students of MTsS Safinatussalamah Lhokseumawe to overcome the difficulties in English speaking, and to know the reason they chose those strategies. The design applied in this research was descriptive qualitative research. Meanwhile, the techniques of data collection were observation, field note, and interview. The researcher analyzed the data by Miles and Huberman model, namely data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The result of the research showed that there were various learning strategies used by the students. There were meta-cognitive strategies, cognitive strategies, and social-affective strategies. They chose those strategies based on some reasons, such as because they wanted to check their language to be a good language in speaking, they felt easier to get the ideas in speaking, and they knew their ability in speaking. So, the strategies were very important to help students in learning process especially in learning English speaking. A good strategy also helped the students to learn fun and creative, so that the students would feel interested in learning and they could practice their speaking.

Abstract

This study was conducted to find out the obstacles faced by students in summarizing descriptive text, and the factors that cause these obstacles. To obtain data in this study, the writer used two data collection techniques, namely questionnaire and interview. Questionnaire was used to know the students’ obstacles in learning summarizing text. Interview is intended to identify the causes of the students’ obstacles in summarizing descriptive text. The subjects of the study were six students in the eighth grade at SMPN 3 Nisam, two of whom had high academic achievement, two with medium academic achievement, and two with low academic achievement. The study's findings revealed that students had a variety of difficulties in summarizing descriptive text due to both internal and external factors. Internal challenges included poor sentence structure comprehension, in identifying key ideas of text and insufficient vocabulary mastery. External factors such as insufficient parental attention and support, limited opportunities for home-based English learning and practice, teacher teaching methods and a lack of supporting materials such as English reading materials and dictionaries were also identified as contributing to the students' obstacles in summarizing descriptive text.

Abstract

Santri in Dayah are required to use foreign languages in the school environment. Those who violate this rule will receive sanctions. Previously, corporal punishment was often given to students who did not comply, but this is clearly contrary to Law Number 23 of 2002 concerning Child Protection. In this regard, this study aims to analyze the problems faced by Dayah Ulumuddin Lhokseumawe in enforcing the language discipline of students after the enactment of the Law, as well as the efforts made in disciplining foreign language students. This research method uses a descriptive analysis-based qualitative method, in which case observation interviews, and documentation studies become data collection techniques. The results of the study reveal that the problems faced by teachers in disciplining foreign-speaking students are the teacher's concern that the disciplinary actions taken by students will be legally problematic, which results in a decrease in the enthusiasm of teachers to enforce the discipline of foreign-speaking students. The disciplinary efforts made are revising the punishment for language violations into educational punishments, innovating language coaching programs, balancing rewards and punishments, increasing learning motivation, and socializing child protection laws to those responsible for enforcing foreign language discipline. This research has implications for the effectiveness of foreign language discipline enforcement among dayah students.

Abstract

Perkembangan Kurikulum Merdeka menuntut adanya transformasi signifikan dalam peran guru, khususnya dalam konteks Pendidikan Agama Islam. Artikel ini membahas bagaimana guru perlu melakukan rekonseptualisasi perannya untuk menjadi agen inovasi kurikulum yang adaptif dan responsif terhadap dinamika pembelajaran modern, peluang dan tantangan serta implikasinya bagi pendidikan Islam. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kajian pustaka dengan pendekatan kualitatif, mengumpulkan dan menganalisis literatur terkait peran guru, inovasi kurikulum, dan implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka dalam Pendidikan Agama Islam. Melalui analisis tersebut, penelitian ini mengidentifikasi tantangan dan peluang yang dihadapi guru dalam menerapkan inovasi kurikulum yang selaras dengan nilai-nilai Islam dan kebutuhan peserta didik masa kini. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa guru tidak hanya berperan sebagai penyampai materi, tetapi juga sebagai fasilitator, motivator, dan pembimbing yang mampu mengintegrasikan prinsip-prinsip pendidikan Islam dengan pendekatan pembelajaran yang kreatif dan kontekstual. Dengan demikian, rekonseptualisasi peran guru menjadi kunci utama dalam mewujudkan tujuan Kurikulum Merdeka, yaitu mencetak generasi yang berakhlak mulia dan siap menghadapi tantangan global.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis media belajar yang digunakan oleh santri kelas VII Dayah Ulumuddin Lhokseumawe dalam belajar kosakata bahasa asing, dan mendeskripsikan cara penggunaan media-media belajar tersebut. Subjek penelitian ini adalah santri kelas VII Dayah Ulumuddin Lhokseumawe yang berjumlah 24 orang serta ustaz yang mengajar bahasa Inggris di kelas tersebut. Untuk mendapatkan data dalam penelitian ini, digunakan dua teknik pengumpulan data, yaitu observasi dan wawancara. Observasi digunakan untuk mengetahui aktivitas santri dan ustaz dalam penggunaan media dalam pembelajaran. Wawancara diperuntukkan untuk mengetahui alasan penggunaan media tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ustaz menggunakan beberapa media dalam proses pembelajaran kosakata bahasa Inggris di kelas. Media-media belajar yang digunakan adalah gambar, video, menggambar di  papan tulis, dan benda nyata. Berdasarkan hasil pengamatan dan wawancara, dari semua media yang digunakan, media video merupakan media yang paling menarik bagi santri. Media ini membuat siswa lebih konsentrasi dalam mendengar dan menonton pengucapan serta arti kosakata untuk selanjutnya akan diingat lebih lama. Walaupun demikian, gambar adalah media yang paling sering digunakan ustaz di kelas dalam mengajar kosakata bahasa Inggris kepada santri.

Abstract

This study examines the concept of ta'dib according to Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas and its relevance in contemporary Islamic education, with reference to his work The Concept of Education in Islam: A Framework for an Islamic Philosophy of Education. Al-Attas defines ta'dib as the process of internalizing manners, which includes the cultivation of knowledge, moral discipline, and awareness of intellectual and spiritual responsibilities in the proper order of life. This study also examines how the concept of ta'dib can be implemented in modern Islamic education systems and the challenges faced in realizing it. Through a qualitative approach based on literature study, this study finds that the concept of ta'dib according to Al-Attas plays an important role in shaping individuals who not only have intellectual intelligence, but are also civilized, moral, and have an awareness of the true purpose of life. The implementation of ta'dib in modern Islamic education can be done through curriculum reconstruction based on the integration of knowledge and spiritual values, the creation of an educational environment that instills manners as a main principle, and the optimization of the role of educators as role models. However, in practice, the application of ta'dib faces various challenges, such as the secularization of education that separates knowledge from Islamic values, the ambiguity of educational goals that focus more on pragmatic aspects, and a lack of comprehensive understanding of the concept of ta'dib among educators and policymakers. Therefore, the concept of ta'dib is a strategic step in building an Islamic education system that is oriented towards a balance between intellectual intelligence, character building, and spiritual awareness as envisioned.
