Abstract

The “oneness of the church” is a struggle that gets attention in the intercession of the Lord Jesus, in John 17:20-23. “That they may all become one…” (ut omnes unum sint). The oneness of the church was implemented quite well in the early church. At that time the church lived all together and in the spirit of serving each other. However, conditions began to change when schism hit the church in the fifth century. Schism after schism which continues to last has damaged the harmony of inter-church relations, bringing forth attitudes and points of exclusivism towards one another. This condition is a fundamental obstacle in the efforts to uphold the church's oneness through the Oikoumene Movement. By using a qualitative research method, with a hermeneutical approach, the author attempts to explore the meaning of ut omnes unum sint based on the text of John 17:20-23. The author finds a fact that the oneness of the church desired by the Lord Jesus follows the pattern of the Trinity and that the Head of the Church stakes His glory above the oneness of His church. Therefore, the church needs to be aware of its responsibility to implement the hope in the intercession of the Lord Jesus by cultivating attitudes and inclusive points of view of one another. “Keesaan gereja” merupakan seuah pergumulan yang mendapatkan perhatian di dalam doa syafaat Tuhan Yesus, dalam Yohanes 17:20-23. “Supaya mereka semua menjadi satu…” (ut omnes unum sint). Keesaan gereja nampak terimplementasikan dengan cukup baik di zaman gereja mula-mula. Pada masa itu gereja hidup dalam kesatuan dan dalam semangat saling melayani satu dengan yang lain. Namun keadaan mulai berubah sejak skisma melanda gereja sejak abad kelima. Skisma demi skisma yang terus terjadi hingga sekarang telah merusak keharmonisan hubungan antar gereja, melahirkan sikap dan pandangan eksklusivisme satu terhadap yang lain. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menggali makna dan implementasi Ut Omnes Unum Sint dan implementasinya dalam realitas kehidupan gereja. Kondisi ini menjadi kendala mendasar di dalam usaha untuk menegakkan keesaan gereja melalui gerakan Oikoumene dengan menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatis, dengan pendekatan hermeneutika, penulis berupa untuk menggali makna dari ut omnes unum sint berdasarkan teks Yohanes 17:20-23 tersebut. Penulis menemukan fakta bahwa keesaan gereja yang dikehendaki oleh Tuhan Yesus adalah sesuai dengan pola keesaan Tritunggal, dan bahwa Sang Kepala Gereja itu mempertaruhkan kemuliaan-Nya di atas keesaan gereja-Nya. Oleh karena itu gereja perlu sadar akan tanggungjawabnya untuk mengimplementasikan harapan dalam doa syafaat Tuhan Yesus tersebut dengan menumbuhkan sikap dan pandangan inklusif satu sama lain.

Abstract

Male circumcision is often practiced across the world for a variety of reasons including health, medical necessity, beauty, tradition, or religion. Jews have practiced male circumcision since Abraham's time and continue until now. This practice is obligatory for Jewish males soon after they are born. In the New Testament, we read Paul talks about circumcision as the practice of Jewish belief, and for Christians, he said spiritual circumcision is the new law of the New Testament. Now, male circumcision is not only related to religion, and culture but connect to the health issue. The interpretation of religion, culture, and health become an interpretation debate over many years. There is Circumcision either improves or decreases male sexual function or satisfaction. It is critical to understand how male circumcision (MC), especially when performed in childhood, impacts men's sexual satisfaction and performance. The topic is also quite contentious. Our objective is to give a comprehensive study of the studies on the influence of male circumcision from Jewish, Christian, and health interpretations.

Abstract

Tithing is a practice that has long been debated among Christians, especially regarding its relevance and theological meaning in the Old Testament. Many Christians give tithes without fully understanding the biblical foundation and spiritual significance behind it. This study aims to explore the theological meaning of tithing in the Old Testament and its implications for Christian life today. The research uses a qualitative literature review method, analyzing biblical texts (Genesis, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Malachi) and relevant scholarly works on tithing. The results reveal four main theological meanings: (1) tithing as an expression of gratitude for what one possesses; (2) withholding tithes as an act of rebellion against God; (3) tithing as an acknowledgment of God’s sovereignty over all possessions; and (4) tithing as having eternal value, rooted in faith, covenant, and compassion for the poor. The study concludes that tithing is not merely a legal obligation but a spiritual discipline that reflects a believer’s relationship with God and commitment to social justice. Contribution: This study contributes a comprehensive theological framework of tithing in the Old Testament, clarifying its fourfold meaning and demonstrating that tithing is an eternal principle of gratitude, covenant loyalty, and compassion, not merely a ceremonial law.   Persembahan perpuluhan merupakan praktik yang telah lama diperdebatkan di kalangan orang Kristen, terutama mengenai relevansi dan makna teologisnya dalam Perjanjian Lama. Banyak orang Kristen memberi perpuluhan tanpa memahami sepenuhnya dasar Alkitab dan makna rohani di baliknya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menggali makna teologis persembahan perpuluhan dalam Perjanjian Lama serta implikasinya bagi kehidupan Kristen masa kini. Penelitian menggunakan metode kajian pustaka kualitatif dengan menganalisis teks-teks Alkitab (Kejadian, Imamat, Bilangan, Ulangan, Maleakhi) serta karya-karya ilmiah yang relevan tentang perpuluhan. Hasil penelitian mengungkapkan empat makna teologis utama: (1) perpuluhan sebagai ucapan syukur atas apa yang dimiliki; (2) menahan perpuluhan menyatakan perlawanan terhadap Tuhan; (3) perpuluhan sebagai pengakuan kedaulatan Tuhan atas segala milik; dan (4) perpuluhan bernilai kekal yang berakar pada iman, perjanjian, dan belas kasihan kepada orang miskin. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa perpuluhan bukan sekadar kewajiban hukum, tetapi suatu disiplin rohani yang mencerminkan hubungan seseorang dengan Tuhan dan komitmen terhadap keadilan sosial. Kontribusi: Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi berupa kerangka teologis yang komprehensif tentang makna perpuluhan dalam Perjanjian Lama, dengan menegaskan bahwa perpuluhan adalah prinsip abadi tentang ucapan syukur, kesetiaan perjanjian, dan belas kasihan, bukan sekadar hukum seremonial.
