Abstract

Among the modem life tended to the materialistic, we still meet a number of a group of people in Indonesia who want to be out from the modem life by performing certain tenets and rituals in which the tenets and rituals they perform tend to be spiritual and moralistic, without having the legal-formal rules and tenets. In the study of religion, such a kind of tenet is called spiritualism movement, and in Indonesia, it is welI-known as a religious sect and mysticism. These sects, according to their founders, are established as an antithesis over the modem life that is more materialistic, the recent condition of Indonesian society who become having more moral degradation, and the elites of politics, the government, as well as the religious leaders who are seriously trapped in the formal mundane affairs. Therefore, according to them, it is necessary to introduce a form of life that gives more priority to the spiritual and psychological aspects that are not tied by any legal religion that is legally admitted by the state. However, what is offered by them, as a matter off act, is basically as their mistakes and their wrongness in understanding religious teachings, especially Islam, because the teachings they provide and develop have many similarities with Islamic spiritualism (Tasawuf), but it is understood and interpreted based on their own thought. Hence, It is necessary to transform such local spiritual movements into Islamic spiritualism (tasawuf). Key Words: beliefs, mysticism, spiritualism

Abstract

The crisis of human spirituality, which separates the inner dimension from the universe, is at the root of the current global environmental crisis. The purpose of this study is to comprehensively examine how Sufi principles are applied in environmental conservation practices at the Shadana Islamic Boarding School in Padarincang, and to determine how the teachings of the book Fathul 'Arifin influence the formation of the students’ ecological ethics. This research was conducted qualitatively through a case study. Data were collected through document analysis, in-depth interviews, and participatory observation from September 22 to October 5, 2025. The results indicate that the concept of spiritual purification, or tazkiyatun nafs, is integrated with nature conservation by activating the seven lathaif. Environmental conservation, such as protecting springs and forests, is viewed as a form of spiritual devotion to the Creator, as human awareness of the elements of fire, water, wind, and earth fosters a strong inner connection with the macrocosm or the universe. The results indicate that the santri paradigm has shifted from anthropocentrism to theocentrism. This study proposes an “Eco-Sufism” model, grounded in the transformation of inner consciousness, as an alternative solution to address environmental degradation. This approach emphasizes that to foster sustainable harmony among humans, God, and the universe, ecosystem sustainability requires a strong foundation of spirituality.

Abstract

The global digital transformation of higher education has accelerated the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in institutional marketing, yet its integration often prioritizes efficiency and competitiveness while overlooking educational values and ethical governance. This study aims to examine how AI-based marketing strategies can be optimized within Islamic higher education institutions through an Islamic Educational Management framework that aligns technological innovation with Islamic educational purposes. Employing a qualitative strategic analysis, the study utilizes Internal Factor Analysis Summary (IFAS) and External Factor Analysis Summary (EFAS), supported by a systematic literature review and secondary institutional data. The findings reveal that AI adoption offers significant strengths, including value-aligned personalization, improved administrative efficiency, and data-driven decision-making that supports the quality of educational services. However, internal challenges persist in the form of limited digital readiness and insufficient capacity for ethically grounded technology stewardship. Externally, growing demand for technology-enhanced Islamic education and supportive digitalization policies present opportunities, while competitive pressures and the need for Sharia-compliant digital governance pose substantial threats. The study concludes that AI-based marketing strategies, when embedded within Islamic Educational Management principles such as al-tadbir al-tarbawi and maqāṣid al-tarbiyah al-islāmiyyah, can strengthen institutional accountability, reinforce Islamic educational identity, and support sustainable transformation. These findings imply that Islamic higher education institutions should frame digital innovation as part of mission-driven educational reform rather than a purely managerial or promotional tool.

Abstract

This article explores the philosophical Sufism of Hamzah Fansuri by examining the internal coherence of his thought rather than treating its elements as isolated doctrines. The discussion focuses on three interrelated dimensions that structure his intellectual system: wujūdiyyah as an ontological foundation, the metaphysics of creation as a cosmological framework, and mystical taraqqī as the process of spiritual realization. Using a qualitative library-based method, this study analyzes Hamzah Fansuri’s prose and poetic writings alongside relevant contemporary scholarship through thematic content analysis. The findings suggest that Hamzah Fansuri consistently affirms God as the only Absolute Being, while the universe and humanity are understood as dependent manifestations of divine reality. Creation is not described as a detached, dualistic act, but as a graded process of manifestation (taʿayyun) that preserves divine transcendence. Within this framework, mystical taraqqī represents an inward transformation of human consciousness through the stages of sharīʿa, ṭarīqa, ḥaqīqa, and maʿrifa. This study argues that Hamzah Fansuri’s philosophical Sufism constitutes a systematic and coherent worldview. Interpreting debates on wujūdiyyah as epistemological differences rather than doctrinal conflicts allows for a more balanced understanding of his position within Southeast Asian Islamic thought.

Abstract

This study addresses the methodological gap between Western philological skepticism exemplified by Ignaz Goldziher’s critique of hadith authenticity and the classical Islamic critical apparatus of jarh wa ta’dil. Despite decades of scholarly debate, no integrative methodological framework has been explicitly operationalized to bridge these two traditions. Design/Methodology/Approach: Using a qualitative-library method, this research systematically selects and analyzes primary sources (Goldziher’s Muhammadan Studies; al-A’zami, Fazlur Rahman, and Ali Mustafa Yakub’s counter-arguments) alongside recent Scopus/WoS-indexed secondary literature. Data analysis employs a philological-critical and hermeneutical approach, validated through source triangulation. Findings: Three specific findings emerge: (1) Goldziher’s philological method raises legitimate socio-historical questions but systematically underestimates the rigor of isnad verification; (2) Muslim scholarly responses evolved from apologetic refutation to methodologically enriched engagement; (3) an Integrative Hadith Criticism Framework (IHCF) combining philological matan analysis with classical sanad verification is both theoretically viable and academically productive. Originality/Value: The novelty lies in proposing an operationalized Integrative Hadith Criticism Framework (IHCF) that transcends the apologetic-versus-skeptical binary and provides a concrete cross-disciplinary methodology applicable to contemporary digital humanities contexts in hadith studies. The implication is that the methodology of hadith criticism can be proactively renewed remaining critically rigorous while preserving the normative authority of hadith as a living source of Islamic law and praxis.
