Abstract

The limited use of interactive teaching materials and learning technologies in the science subject at MI Terpadu Berkah Palangka Raya has led to low student motivation and suboptimal learning outcomes, primarily due to the reliance on conventional methods and printed worksheets. This community service activity aims to address these challenges by developing and assisting in the use of interactive digital teaching materials based on Canva. The implementation method starts with needs mapping, mentoring on creating digital books, and finally implementing and evaluating the use of the media in grade IV classrooms. The results showed a significant improvement in student motivation and understanding of science materials, as indicated by an average field test score of 85.29% (very feasible category). Additionally, teachers provided positive feedback with an evaluation score of 72.05%. The activity positively impacted the digital learning process at MI Terpadu Berkah Palangka Raya and enhanced teachers’ capacity to develop independent technology-based teaching media.

Abstract

Vocabulary size is a key component of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners’ proficiency; however, many students still struggle to develop sufficient vocabulary, especially in contexts with limited exposure to English. Although previous studies have highlighted the benefits of Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL), the role of structured session duration in vocabulary development remains underexplored. This study examines the effect of fixed Duolingo usage duration on the vocabulary size of twelfth-grade students at SMA NU Palangka Raya. A quasi-experimental design was applied, involving an experimental group and a control group, both receiving pre-tests and post-tests using a standardized vocabulary test. The experimental group completed four 30-miNUte Duolingo sessions, while the control group engaged in conventional instruction, including flashcard memorization and fill-in-the-gap exercises, within the same time allocation. Results indicated improvement in both groups; however, the experimental group achieved significantly higher gains, with a post-test mean score of 66.83 compared to 50.73 in the control group. Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference (t (21) = -5.637, p < .001), demonstrating the effectiveness of structured Duolingo usage. These findings suggest that fixed, time-structured learning supported by adaptive digital features can enhance vocabulary development more effectively than conventional methods. The study underscores the potential of integrating structured mobile learning into classroom practice, although its small sample size and short duration limit generalizability. Further research is needed to examine long-term effects and varied duration designs.

Abstract

This study examined the experiences of novice English teachers in implementing the Merdeka Curriculum in Indonesian public school. Using a qualitative method through case study approach, data were collected from three early-career English teachers through interviews and document analysis. Thematic analysis revealed three key themes: implementation challenges, support systems, and effective teaching techniques. Teachers faced obstacles such as limited technical skills, inadequate facilities, and passive student behavior. However, they adapted by modifying tasks, using multimedia, grouping students flexibly, and using assessments to plan lessons. Support came mainly from digital platforms and peer groups, while formal mentoring was lacking. The study concludes that successful curriculum implementation requires strong institutional support, sufficient infrastructure, and teacher readiness. These insights provide practical guidance for new teachers facing curriculum reform.
