Abstract

This study aims at describing variation of meaning carried in kalembo ade as an instrument of resolving conflict among individuals and groups in Mbojo community by applying speech act analysis. Data were collected from speech events in Mbojo community and further analyzed descriptively. One type of speech acts was taken by considering its relevancy towards to focus of this study, i.e. expressive. Results showed that kalembo ade dealt with one of types of speech acts, i.e. Expressive type. The expression was found to reflect some actions, including condolences, apologies, greetings, thanksgivings, refusal, and congratulations. Hence, by viewing the context of usage, members of Mbojo community used this expression as an instrument in communication to resolve conflict, in which the phrase was used as tool to control verbal interaction during a speech event.

Abstract

Tujuan utama pelatihan ini adalah memberikan pemahaman dasar mengenai penguasaan engish daily dasar kepada siswa SD I Abdi Nusantara Lombok Tengah. Penyuluhan bahasa Inggris dilaksanakan di kelas 2 ,berdasarkan keterangan kepala sekolah di SDI Abdi Nusantara bahwa bahasa Inggris sangat penting untuk diajarkan kepada siswa/wi mereka terutama dalam kontek speaking dalam kehidupan sehari hari Sehubungan dengan pelaksanaan kegiatan tersebut, maka pelatihan ini dilaksanakan dalam beberapa teknik yaitu menjawab pertanyaan, mengenal kosa kata yang berkaitan dengan daily English, menyanyi bahasa Inggris bersama dengan pemberian model pengucapan dan latihan kepada peserta. Pelatihan ini telah berlangsung selama 3 bulan dan menghasilkan peserta yang dapat meningkatkan dan mengetahui dasar-dasar penguasaan bahasa Inggris secara kontekstual terkait bahasa inggris sehari hari (Daily English).

Abstract

This study aims at describing negative politeness principle strategies carried on Mbojo Speakers in a Family Environment by applying socio-pragmatics analysis, it’s a sub-dicipline of linguistics. Data were collected from speech events in Mbojo family environment and further analyzed descriptively. In the process of analyzing the data applies the theory of negative politeness strategies proposed by Brown and Levinson. The result shows that from seven strategies of negative politeness, in speech events of the Mbojo family Environment, there are four negative politeness strategies were found, including Strategy of Using Indirect Expressions, Strategy Use Hedge Honorin, Strategy Using impersonal form.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the meaning of the Kalembo Ade phrase from the perspective of the Politeness Principle and correaltion with language education.This study was designed as a descriptive qualitative study. Within this method, there is potential for researchers to engage with meaning carried out in a speech event from various events. Therefore, this study employed a pragmatic approach to come with relevant findings. Data were collected from various speech events between children and parents, adults, teenagers, and teenagers and parents. Data, which were in the forms of utterances, were taken in some places and situations, including in a public bus, garden, farm, houses, and neighborhood. The result shows that there are four politeness princples that contained on Kalembo Ade phrase, such as Maxim of Generosity, Maxim of Sympathy, Maxim of Generosity, and Maxim of Appreciation. Based on the results of the analysis, a correlation exists between the expression and education, specifically encompassing the aspects of Cross-Cultural Pragmatics and Sociolinguistics Learning and Curriculum Development for Local Language and Culture.

Abstract

This research examines linguistic politeness strategies within the context of English language instruction at Universitas Qamarul Huda Badaruddin Bagu. Politeness serves as a central focus within pragmatics, a specialized branch of linguistics. Specifically, this study concentrates on the interactions between students and lecturers during the instructional process. Employing a qualitative ethnographic approach, the study involved one lecturer and 30 students from the Cooperative Economics Department. Data were collected through non-participant classroom observations and semi-structured in-depth interviews. The findings showed that the application of Leech’s six maxims within the classroom serves as a vital instrument for academic diplomacy. These include the Tact Maxim, Generosity Maxim, Approbation Maxim, Modesty Maxim, Agreement Maxim, and Sympathy Maxim. Each maxim functions complimentary to balance the rights and obligations of both lecturers and students. The implementation of these maxims successfully minimizes the perceived power distance between the lecturer and students, thereby fostering an equitable classroom atmosphere. Ultimately, this practice cultivates an academic culture rooted in mutual respect, productivity, and empathy.
