Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of applying line art techniques on improving creativity in drawing geometric decorative motifs among fifth-grade students at SDN 101764 Bandar Klippa. This study used a quantitative approach with a true experimental design using a pretest-posttest control group design. The study population consisted of 47 students, with a sample of 32 students, consisting of 16 students in the experimental class and 16 students in the control class, selected through random sampling. Data collection techniques used observation sheets, interviews, and a creativity assessment rubric. Data analysis was conducted through normality and homogeneity tests, and hypothesis testing using the Independent Sample T-Test with SPSS. The results showed that the average post-test score in the experimental class was 65.94, higher than the average score in the control class (61.50). Furthermore, the results of the hypothesis test showed a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.044 < 0.05, thus H₀ was rejected and Hₐ was accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of line art techniques significantly improves students' creativity in drawing geometric decorative motifs. The application of line art techniques has been proven to enhance aspects of students' creativity, including fluency of ideas, flexibility, originality, and detail in drawing. Therefore, line art techniques can be used as an effective alternative learning method to enhance student creativity in fine arts lessons in elementary schools.

Abstract

Creativity is one of the key 21st-century competencies that needs to be developed starting in elementary school. Visual arts education in elementary school serves as a strategic means of fostering students’ creativity; however, teaching practices are still dominated by conventional techniques that lack variety, leading to a stagnation of creativity, particularly in terms of originality and elaboration. This study aims to determine the effect of applying simple pointillism techniques in drawing the surrounding environment on the improvement of visual arts creativity among third-grade students at State Elementary School 4 in Medan. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research sample consisted of 66 students, comprising 33 students in the experimental class and 33 students in the control class. Data were collected through a practical drawing test, which was assessed using a creativity rubric based on the indicators of fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration, and then analyzed using an independent samples t-test. The results showed a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0,001 < 0,05, indicating a significant effect of applying the simple pointillism technique on the improvement of students’ visual arts creativity. The average gain score for the experimental group was 12,60, which was higher than that of the control group 10,30. Improvements were observed in all four aspects of creativity, with the most significant improvements in the aspects of originality and elaboration. In addition, the application of the pointillism technique with the theme of drawing the surrounding environmentmade learning more contextual and meaningful. Thus, the simple pointillism technique is effective for use in visual arts education in elementary school.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) cooperative learning model, supported by the congklak game as a teaching aid, on the mathematics learning outcomes of fifth-grade students at SDN 101776 Sampali regarding the topics of Least Common Multiple (LCM) and Greatest Common Factor (GCF). The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method and a pretest-posttest control group design. The research sample consisted of two classes: Class 5A, the experimental class, which received instruction using the STAD model supplemented with the congklak game; and Class V-B served as the control group, receiving instruction via the method frequently employed by the teacher (Problem-Based Learning).. The research instrument was a multiple-choice test that had passed validity, reliability, difficulty level, and discriminative power tests. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and pretest and posttest assessments, then analyzed using normality tests, homogeneity tests, and an Independent Samples t-test with the aid of IBM SPSS Statistics 26. The results showed that the average posttest score for the experimental class was 78.25, while that for the control class was 56.50. The improvement in learning outcomes in the experimental class was 70.5%, which was higher than that of the control class at 36.8%.The results of the hypothesis test show a t-value of 6.404 with degrees of freedom (df) = 38 and a significance level (Sig., 2-tailed) of 0.000. Since 0.000 < 0.05, H₀ is rejected and H₁ is accepted. Thus, the STAD cooperative learning model, supported by the congklak game as a teaching aid, has a positive and significant effect on students’ mathematics learning outcomes in the topics of LCM and GCF. This model has been proven to be more effective than PBL in improving the mathematics learning outcomes of elementary school students.
