Abstract

Cross-cultural pragmatic differences often constitute a major challenge in the development of communication competencies of multinational teams, hindering global organizational collaboration and productivity. This research aims to identify theoretical frameworks and key models that are relevant in explaining cross-cultural pragmatics and its impact on communication competence. Using a systematic literature review (SLR) approach with the PRISMA protocol, this research analyzed 38 academic articles from various geographic and cultural contexts. The results show that the theory of Cross-Cultural Pragmatics, the Intercultural Communication Competency Model, and High-Context and Low-Context Communication provide significant contributions in understanding and optimizing cross-cultural communication. This research recommends theory-based training to increase communication effectiveness in multinational organizations.

Abstract

The integration of gaming into English language learning is gaining increasing attention as an innovative method for improving language skills. This research explores how the use of games, especially MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games), can facilitate English language acquisition through the interactions required in game contexts. The game allows players to communicate in English in real-time, improving their language skills through practical application in high-pressure situations. Studies show that gamers often have better language skills compared to non-gamers, especially in vocabulary and writing skills. Additionally, the motivation triggered by the fun and interactive aspects of games can reduce affective barriers, such as anxiety, that are often encountered in traditional language learning. Through analyzing language features in gaming communities, learning materials can be designed to suit students' experiences and interests, making them more relevant and engaging. This research highlights the potential of games as an effective language learning tool, offering a new context for language acquisition that may not be achieved with conventional methods.

Abstract

English language skills are an urgent need for students in the era of globalization to support academic and career success. However, the limited English language skills of new students at UIN Raden Intan Bandar Lampung are a challenge that requires a strategic solution. The English matriculation program implemented at the UPT Language Development Center aims to improve students' English language competence through an active learning approach. This activity involves a pre-test, practice-based learning, and a post-test to evaluate the effectiveness of the program. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in students' English language skills, with an average increase in post-test scores of 20–30 points. These findings emphasize the importance of the matriculation program as a systematic effort to support students' academic and professional preparation and recommend the development of similar programs to be implemented in other universities.
