AI-Driven Adaptive Pathways in Virtual Learning Environments: A PRISMA-Based Systematic Literature Hasrul Bakri

Abstract

The static nature of conventional Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) often fails to address the diverse needs of individual learners, limiting the potential for personalized education. The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) offers promising solutions through adaptive learning pathways. This systematic literature review aims to synthesize current evidence on AI-driven adaptive pathways in VLEs by examining: (1) types of AI algorithms used, (2) adaptation mechanisms employed, (3) impacts on learning outcomes and engagement, and (4) emerging trends and innovations. Following the PRISMA guidelines, a comprehensive search was conducted across five major databases (Scopus, Web of Science, IEEE Xplore, ACM Digital Library, and Google Scholar) for publications between 2015 and 2024. From 2,150 initially identified records, 78 studies met the inclusion criteria after rigorous screening and quality assessment using the JBI critical appraisal tools. Findings indicate that deep learning, neural networks, and natural language processing are the most commonly used AI techniques for detecting learning styles and dynamically recommending content. AI-based adaptive systems consistently improve academic performance, motivation, and engagement by up to 25% compared to traditional static VLEs. However, significant challenges related to data privacy, algorithmic bias, and infrastructural readiness persist. AI-driven adaptive pathways hold transformative potential for creating more personalized and effective digital learning experiences. Successful implementation requires addressing ethical and technical barriers through multidisciplinary collaboration and the development of inclusive, sustainable frameworks.

Abstract

Objectives: The JPTE Integrated Academic Information System (SIJUPE) was developed to address student data management problems at the Department of Electrical Engineering Education (JPTE), Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Negeri Makassar (FT UNM), which is one of the departments with the largest number of students. This study aims to evaluate the success of SIJUPE using the DeLone & McLean (2003) Information Systems Success Model, which encompasses three quality dimensions (system, information, service), use, user satisfaction, and net benefits. Methods: This research employed a quantitative approach with a survey method. The study population consisted of all SIJUPE users among the academic community, with samples taken using proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with the assistance of SmartPLS software. Results:  The results show that user satisfaction has a positive and significant effect on net benefits, as does system use. Among the three quality dimensions, information quality is the most dominant factor influencing user satisfaction. These findings indicate that SIJUPE generally provides positive benefits to the academic community of JPTE FT UNM, although improvements in service quality are still needed. Novelty: This study contributes first empirical evidence on the successful implementation of a cloud computing-based academic information system in a higher education setting with a large student population, specifically in Eastern Indonesia, using an integrated DeLone & McLean framework.

Abstract

Alumni SMK diharapkan mampu langsung memasuki dunia kerja, industri, atau berwirausaha sesuai kompetensinya. Namun, sebagian besar alumni SMK Negeri 4 Gowa melanjutkan studi ke S1 atau bekerja sebagai karyawan swasta, sehingga diperlukan pelatihan keterampilan tambahan yang mendukung visi sekolah dalam mencetak alumni berwirausaha. Salah satu peluang usaha yang relevan bagi siswa kompetensi Teknik Instalasi Tenaga Listrik adalah usaha las listrik. Oleh karena itu, kegiatan PKM ini dilaksanakan untuk memberikan pengetahuan dasar, keterampilan penggunaan las listrik Lakoni, serta kemampuan menghitung rencana anggaran biaya. Metode kegiatan dilakukan melalui ceramah, diskusi, tanya jawab, dan praktik langsung. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa mitra telah memahami cara kerja las listrik Lakoni, mampu menggunakannya dengan baik dan benar, serta dapat menghitung rencana anggaran biaya.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kapasitas sekolah dalam pelacakan alumni melalui pelatihan tracer study di SMK Negeri 10 Makassar. Tracer study merupakan instrumen penting untuk mengukur relevansi kompetensi lulusan dengan kebutuhan dunia kerja, namun banyak SMK masih mengalami kendala dalam pengelolaan data alumni yang sistematis dan berkelanjutan. Mitra kegiatan ini adalah SMK Negeri 10 Makassar yang memiliki jumlah lulusan cukup besar tetapi belum memiliki sistem tracer study yang terintegrasi. Pelatihan dilaksanakan dengan metode partisipatif melalui tiga tahap utama: sosialisasi pentingnya tracer study, pelatihan teknis penggunaan instrumen dan aplikasi pengumpulan data alumni, serta pendampingan pengolahan dan analisis data. Peserta pelatihan terdiri dari 15 guru dan 3 staf tata usaha. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman peserta tentang konsep tracer study sebesar 45% (dari nilai rata-rata pre-test 55 menjadi 80 pada post-test), serta kemampuan teknis dalam merancang kuesioner, mengumpulkan data melalui berbagai saluran (WhatsApp, Google Form, telepon), dan menyajikan data dalam bentuk laporan sederhana. Selain itu, sekolah berhasil mendata 60% alumni dari tiga angkatan terakhir yang sebelumnya hanya terdokumentasi 20%. Program ini diharapkan dapat menjadi model bagi SMK lain dalam membangun sistem pelacakan alumni yang efektif dan berkelanjutan.
