Abstract

The Emergency Department (ER) is a healthcare unit that handles patients with a variety of emergency conditions and requires rapid and appropriate treatment. The high number of patient visits with varying degrees of severity demands an effective treatment system, one of which is through the implementation of triage. Triage aims to determine the priority of patient care based on the level of severity to improve patient safety and service efficiency. This study aims to analyze the role of triage as a patient care strategy in the Emergency Department. This study used quantitative methods with an analytical design and a cross-sectional approach. The sample was emergency department nurses at healthcare facility X. Data were collected using questionnaires and observation sheets, then analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that good triage implementation was significantly associated with the effectiveness of patient care in the ER (p < 0.05).

Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease (NCD) whose prevalence continues to increase in Indonesia and is a major risk factor for heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure. Lack of public knowledge about hypertension and low awareness of the need for regular health check-ups often results in hypertension going undetected early. This community service activity aims to increase public knowledge and awareness about hypertension through health education and free blood pressure checks. The activity was conducted in the neighborhood unit (RW) 05, X Village, and involved 102 participants aged 25–70 years. The activities included interactive health education, blood pressure checks, short interviews, and healthy lifestyle education. The results showed an increase in public knowledge, and 28 participants (27.4%) had blood pressure above normal, most of whom had never had a routine check-up before. Participants expressed satisfaction and found this activity very helpful and hoped that similar activities would be conducted regularly. This activity demonstrates that free health education and check-ups are very beneficial in increasing public awareness of hypertension and have the potential to prevent complications through early detection.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Patients on long-term bed rest require proper care to prevent complications such as pressure ulcers, joint stiffness, and infection. In many cases, care for bed rest patients is provided by family members at home. However, a lack of family knowledge and skills regarding basic care for bed rest patients can increase the risk of complications. This Community Service (PKM) activity aims to improve family knowledge and skills in providing basic care for bed rest patients at home. The activity methods included health education, demonstrations of bed rest patient care, and hands-on practice by participants. Thirty family members caring for bed rest patients at home participated in the activity. Evaluation was conducted through pre- and post-tests to determine improvements in participant knowledge. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' knowledge and skills in providing basic care for bed rest patients, such as maintaining patient hygiene, changing body position, and preventing pressure ulcers. This training has proven effective in improving families' ability to care for bed rest patients at home.
