Abstract

ABSTRACT Childhood, especially toddlerhood, is the peak of children's curiosity because their five senses are not aware of possible dangers. As a result, children at this age are vulnerable to dangers that can cause permanent accidents that the child must endure throughout his life. The highest proportion of places where injuries occur is in the home environment (59.38%). It is known that there is an analysis of the relationship between maternal knowledge and efforts to prevent injuries in toddler-aged children. This type of quantitative research uses a descriptive analytical design with a cross sectional approach. The population in this study were all mothers with toddler-aged children totaling 3,132 respondents with a sample size of 97 respondents. Sampling was taken using purposive random sampling technique by using the slovin formula. Based on research, it is known that of the 97 respondents who had poor knowledge, there were fewer efforts to prevent injuries, namely 47.6% and of the 97 respondents who had good knowledge, there were more efforts to prevent injuries, namely 85.1%. The results of the chi-square test obtained a value of p = 0.001 a value = 0.05 odd ratio (OR) obtained a value = 5.2, so Ho was rejected, meaning it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between maternal knowledge and efforts to prevent injuries in toddlers. Abstract

Background: Toddlers are not yet able to distinguish between edible and inedible objects because they are in the oral phase and tend to put objects in their mouths, putting them at risk of choking. WHO (2011) recorded 17,537 cases of choking in children aged ≤3 years, with 59.5% caused by food, 31.4% by foreign objects, and 9.1% by other causes. Purpose: To report on pediatric nursing care, including providing education on emergency management of choking in children at home in Sukajaya District. Method: This was a quantitative descriptive study using a case study approach for nursing care (assessment to evaluation). Education was provided to improve mothers' knowledge in managing choking in children. Results: The evaluation of the choking management education conducted over two sessions showed a significant increase in knowledge among both respondents. Conclusion: Based on the results obtained after two sessions of education, both respondents showed a significant increase in knowledge regarding choking management in children
