Abstract

Background. This study analyzes the meaning of fear of loss in the lyrics of Lizzy McAlpine's song “Staying” using Roland Barthes' semiotic approach, which includes the levels of denotation, connotation, and myth. Aims. This study aims to reveal how fear of loss is described through song lyrics as media texts and how this meaning can be linked to the emotional experiences of listeners, especially the younger generation. Methods. The method used is descriptive qualitative research, with data collection techniques that include secondary and primary data, documentary studies of song lyrics supported by interviews, and validity tests through source triangulation. Result. The results of this study indicate that the lyrics of Lizzy McAlpine's song “Staying” describe the meaning of fear of loss through three levels of Roland Barthes' semiotics. At the denotative level, the lyrics describe a relationship that is still physically ongoing but accompanied by emotional exhaustion and doubt. Conclusion. At the connotative level, this song represents the fear of loss that drives the narrator to persevere and delay the breakup even though the relationship has become fragile. At the mythical level, the fear of loss is normalized so that remaining in a painful relationship is considered more acceptable than letting go. In addition, the interview results show that the meaning of the fear of loss in this song aligns with listeners' emotional experiences, in which the fear of loss drives individuals to delay separation and maintain closeness as a form of temporary security.

Abstract

Background. Television media has a strategic role in shaping social reality through the framing process, including in representing religious institutions such as Islamic boarding schools. The October 13, 2025 edition of Xpose Uncensored Trans7 showcases pesantren through narratives and visuals that cause controversy and influence public perception. Aims. This study aims to analyze the framing of pesantren in the Xpose Uncensored Trans7 show and examine the response of the Kebon Jambu Islamic Boarding School to the framing. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data was obtained through in-depth interviews with caregivers, managers, and students of the Kebon Jambu Islamic Boarding School, as well as through documentary documentation and supporting literature. Data analysis was carried out using Robert N. Entman's framing theory. Results. The results of the study show that the Xpose Uncensored Trans7 show frames pesantren reducively and tends to ignore the context of pesantren values, traditions, and educational relationships. The response of the Kebon Jambu Islamic Boarding School shows a critical and reflective attitude through the rejection of media stigma and efforts to maintain the cultural identity of the Islamic boarding school. Conclusion. This study concludes that pesantren play an active role in responding to media construction, thus emphasizing the importance of journalistic practices that are contextual and sensitive to cultural values.

Abstract

Background. Adolescent consumption patterns are influenced by the rise of social media platforms, such as TikTok Shop, which combine entertainment and shopping on a single platform. Aims. This study investigates the impact of impulse buying on TikTok Shop on the fashion consumption behavior of female students at SMK Negeri 2 in Cirebon City. Methods. The study employed a quantitative method and involved 77 respondents, selected using the Slovin formula with a 10% margin of error. Data were collected via a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using SPSS 2023 through validity, reliability, normality, linearity, and simple linear regression tests. Result. The analysis results indicate that impulse buying has a significant influence on consumption behavior. This means that the higher the students’ tendency to make impulsive purchases, the higher their consumption behavior. There is a significant and positive relationship between the tendency toward impulse buying and the students’ consumer behavior, with a correlation coefficient (R) of 0.548 and a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.301. This implies that a one-unit increase in impulse buying will increase consumer behavior by 0.451, in accordance with the regression equation Y = 7.621 + 0.451X. Conclusion. The results of this study are expected to help parents, educators, and digital marketers understand how social media, particularly TikTok, influences adolescent consumption behavior. Implementation. These findings can also serve as a reference for teaching adolescents about financial literacy and how to exercise self-control while shopping in the internet age.
