Abstract

ABSTRACT This study, entitled ‘Teachers’ Perceptions and Readiness in Implementing the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum at MIS At-Taqwa Sambas’, focuses on the following research questions: 1) What is the teachers’ understanding and interpretation of the Merdeka Belajar curriculum concept at MIS At-Taqwa Sambas?; What is the readiness of teachers to implement learning methods based on the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum at MIS At-Taqwa Sambas?; What are the factors influencing teachers’ perceptions and readiness in implementing the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum at MIS At-Taqwa Sambas? The research method employed in this study is qualitative, specifically field research. The data collection methods used consist of interviews, observation and documentation. The findings of this study can be summarised as follows: 1) Teachers’ understanding is a process of transition from the 2013 Curriculum to the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum, which emphasises freedom, flexibility, and the development of character as well as the unique potential of learners. This interpretation is reflected in the use of simple language, concrete examples, visual aids, interactive methods, and the integration of digital technology to make learning more meaningful and enjoyable. 2) Teachers’ readiness is supported by a combination of professional and pedagogical competencies, enhanced through training and the use of the teacher’s handbook as a reference. 3) Factors influencing teachers’ perceptions and readiness include personal and professional capabilities, institutional readiness, teaching experience, training, and the availability of relevant teaching materials. This study emphasises the importance of synergy between internal and external factors for the successful implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum within the school environment.

Abstract

Supervision at every level of education must be carried out, as it helps nursery schools and Raudhatul Athfal institutions to improve the quality of learning, enhance teacher performance, and ensure that administration and teaching methods meet standards. This is not merely monitoring, but guidance aimed at improving teacher competence, fostering learning innovation, and enhancing the quality of early childhood education services. Broadly speaking, it involves the professional development of teachers and educational staff, ensuring standards are met, problem-solving, and targeted performance. The difference lies in the academic supervision of kindergartens, which focuses more on the national curriculum approach, emphasising the development of children’s motor, cognitive, language, and socio-emotional skills. Meanwhile, at Raudhatul Athfal, supervision emphasises the integration of Islamic values, etiquette, memorisation of short surahs, prayers, and daily worship practices into learning activities. Supervision in kindergartens checks administration and lesson planning in accordance with the national curriculum. Raudhatul Athfal checks the alignment of lesson plans with Islamic values. Kindergartens focus more on cognitive, motor, social-emotional and language development using a general thematic approach or specific methods such as Montessori.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the impact of TikTok social media usage on the speaking ethics of ninth-grade students at MTs.S Gerpemi Tebas. The research focuses on three aspects: (1) how patterns of TikTok usage influence students’ speaking ethics, (2) the positive and negative impacts of TikTok on students’ speaking behavior, and (3) the preventive and educational measures taken by teachers to address the effects of TikTok on students’ speaking ethics. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach using interviews, observations, and documentation as data collection techniques. The findings reveal that students use TikTok for approximately 8–12 hours per day, which significantly exceeds the ideal daily screen time of 4 hours and 17 minutes suggested by the University of Oxford. Students’ active engagement on the platform is reflected in the large number of followers they have, ranging from hundreds to thousands, as well as their frequent involvement in creating and consuming content. These usage patterns have influenced their communication habits and speaking styles in both school and social environments. The study also found that TikTok has both positive and negative effects on students’ speaking ethics. The positive impacts include increased creativity, greater self-confidence, enhanced communication skills, and broader knowledge gained from educational content. However, negative effects were also identified, including a decline in politeness, the use of inappropriate or harsh language, reduced concentration on academic activities, procrastination in completing school assignments, and social media addiction. These negative consequences have the potential to affect students’ academic performance and interpersonal relationships. To minimize these adverse effects, teachers, particularly Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers, have implemented several preventive and educational strategies. These efforts include collaborating with parents to monitor students’ social media activities, conducting regular mobile phone inspections at school, and providing guidance on proper speaking ethics based on Islamic values and teachings. Furthermore, when students consistently display inappropriate speaking behavior, parents are invited to participate in counseling and guidance sessions. These measures are intended to encourage responsible social media use, strengthen students’ awareness of ethical communication, and reduce the negative influence of TikTok on their daily lives.
