Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic disease that can cause complications, including sleep disorders. Sleep disorders in patients with hypertension can reduce quality of life and increase the risk of cardiovascular complications. Slow stroke back massage nonpharmacological therapy is one intervention that can be used to improve sleep quality. This case report aims to describe the application of slow stroke back massage on the sleep quality of patients with hypertension at the Pampang Community Health Center. The method used was nursing care, which included assessment, data analysis, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Hypertensive patients experienced difficulty sleeping, frequent nighttime awakenings, headaches, and tension in the neck and back. The intervention, which consisted of sleep support and pain management with slow stroke back massage, was carried out for three days with a duration of 10–15 minutes per session. The evaluation results showed a decrease in sleep difficulties, a reduction in the frequency of waking up at night, a decrease in pain intensity, and an increase in patient sleep satisfaction. The conclusion of this report is that slow stroke back massage is effective as a non-pharmacological therapy to improve sleep quality in hypertensive patients.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the public health problems with increasing prevalence every year and has the potential to cause complications such as stroke, heart failure, and kidney damage. Non-pharmacological efforts are an alternative intervention that is increasingly used, one of which is cucumber water infused therapy which is believed to have a diuretic effect and antioxidant content to help lower blood pressure. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of cucumber infused water in reducing blood pressure in hypertensive patients in the working area of the Maccini Sawah Health Center. This study uses a pre-experimental design with a one group pretest–posttest approach. Blood pressure data were measured before and after administration of cucumber infused water during the intervention period. The instruments used were observation sheets and interviews. The results showed that there was a decrease in systolic and diastolic blood pressure after cucumber infused water intervention. The decrease shows the body's positive response to cucumber's main content such as potassium, water, and flavonoids which play a role in reducing vascular resistance and improving hydration. Therefore, cucumber infused water is effective in lowering blood pressure in people with hypertension and can be recommended as a supportive non-pharmacological therapy in primary health care facilities

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the most prevalent non-communicable diseases and remains a global health problem, often referred to as a silent killer. Elderly individuals with hypertension frequently experience poor sleep quality, which may worsen blood pressure conditions. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of sleep quality on blood pressure in elderly patients with hypertension. This research employed a case study design on an elderly patient with hypertension at Puskesmas Pampang. The interventions provided included sleep hygiene education, restriction of coffee consumption at night, and regulation of sleep patterns. Evaluation was carried out for three consecutive days by monitoring sleep quality and measuring blood pressure. Results: Before the intervention, the patient had poor sleep quality with blood pressure levels of 167/80 mmHg and 164/85 mmHg. After the intervention, sleep quality improved, complaints of difficulty sleeping decreased, and blood pressure decreased to 162/80 mmHg. Conclusion: Improving sleep quality has an effect on reducing blood pressure in elderly patients with hypertension. Good sleep quality can serve as an important non-pharmacological factor in the management of hypertension

Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic disease with a low rate of medication adherence. Many patients only take medication when symptoms occur, which increases the risk of complications. Health education plays an important role in improving patients’ understanding and behavior related to hypertension therapy. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of an education program in improving medication adherence among hypertension patients. Methods: This study employed a pre-experimental design with a pretest-posttest approach. Data were collected through observation sheets and interviews. Results: Before receiving education, the patient only took medication when experiencing symptoms, with a blood pressure of 165/95 mmHg. After the educational intervention, the patient demonstrated improved knowledge, started using a phone alarm as a reminder, and showed better medication adherence. Blood pressure decreased to 150/90 mmHg. Conclusion: The education program was proven effective in improving patients’ knowledge and adherence to antihypertensive medication. Continuous education that is simple, easy to understand, and involves family support plays a crucial role in controlling blood pressure and preventing long-term complications.

Abstract

Fever is one of the common side effects that often occurs in toddlers after immunization. Fever management is generally carried out with antipyretics, but non-pharmacological interventions such as shallot compresses can serve as an alternative due to their flavonoid and essential oil content, which have vasodilatory effects and improve blood circulation. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of shallot compresses in reducing body temperature in toddlers after immunization at the working area of Maccini Sawah Public Health Center. This research employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sample consisted of toddlers experiencing post-immunization fever, selected using purposive sampling. Temperature measurements were taken before and after the shallot compress intervention with a duration of 60 minutes. Data were analyzed using the paired t-test. The findings revealed a decrease in toddlers’ body temperature by an average of 1.2°C after the shallot compress intervention (p < 0.05), indicating significant effectiveness in reducing fever. Shallot compresses are effective in lowering body temperature in toddlers after immunization. This intervention can be considered a non-pharmacological alternative in the management of mild fever in children.
