Penerapan metode brain gym (senam otak) dalam meningkatan keterampilan membaca anak autis

Abstract

Penelitian ini berdasarkan adanya permasalahan  mengenai  minimalnya penguasaan kosa kata, kemampuan dalam mengenal huruf alfabet (abjad) juga masih belum bisa dikatakan sempurna pada anak autis. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk meningkatkan keterampilan membaca anak autistik dengan target behavior yaitu, kemampuan mengenal huruf alfabet (abjad) dan kemampuan membaca kata. Subjek pada penelitian ini adalah anak autistik kelas XII SMALB di SKh. Samantha Kota Serang. Metode yang digunakan yang digunakan yaitu Single Subject Research (SSR) dengan design A-B-A. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terjadinya peningkatan yang cukup signifikan pada keterampilan membaca pada subjek penelitian dengan penerapan metode Brain Gym (senam otak) dengan dibuktikannya perolehan nilai perbandingan mean level pada target behavior mengenal huruf alfabet (abjad), pada fase baseline-1 (A) nilai rata-rata yang didapatkan sebesar 48% , fase intervensi (B) mendapatkan nilai rata-rata sebesar 78%, dan fase baseline-2 (A2) mendapatkan nilai rata-rata sebesar 54%. maka penerapan metode Brain Gym (senam otak) efektif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan membaca anak autis.  Abstract: This research is based on the existence of problems regarding the minimum mastery of vocabulary, the ability to recognize the letters of the alphabet (alphabets) is still not perfect in children with autism. This study aimed to improve the reading skills of autistic children with target behavior, namely, the ability to recognize letters of the alphabet (alphabet) and the ability to read words. The subjects in this study were autistic children in class XII SMALB at SKh. Samantha of Serang City. The method used is Single Subject Research (SSR) with an ABA design. The progress can be seen in the phase baseline-1 (A1), the Intervention phase (B), and phase baseline-2 (A2). The results showed a significant increase in reading skills in research subjects with the application of the method Brain Gym with the evidence of the acquisition of mean level comparisons on the target behavior of recognizing letters of the alphabet (alphabet) in the phase baseline-1 (A) mean value -The average obtained is 48%, the intervention phase (B) gets an average value of 78%, and the phase baseline-2 (A2) gets an average value of 54%. Then the application of the method Brain Gym is effective in improving the reading skills of children with autism.
