<![CDATA[ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui seberapa besar penggunaan teknik bermain perandalam meningkatkan keterampilan siswa berbicara bahasa Inggris khususnya pada penggunaansimple past tense pada kelas X Akomodasi Perhotelan 4 di SMK Negeri 4 Denpasar. Teori-teoriyang digunakan sebagai landasan dalam penelitian ini yaitu teori tentang pengajaranketerampilan berbicara oleh Richard (2008) dan teori tentang pengajaran tata bahasa olehWilliams (2005). Sebelum dilaksanakan pembelajaran, tes awal diberikan untuk mengetahuikemampuan awal siswa sehingga nilai yang diperoleh dapat dibandingkan dengan siklusberikutnya setelah diberikan pembelajaran. Hasil dari data kuantitatif menunjukkan bahwapenggunaan teknik bermain peran dapat meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara bahasa Inggrissiswa di SMK Negeri 4 Denpasar. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari hasil yang diperoleh oleh siswa padasaat diberikan tes dan terjadi peningkatan selama teknik bermain peran diterapkan. Aspek darikemampuan berbicara yang dijadikan tolok ukur pada penilitian ini yaitu, kosakata, pelafalan,tata bahasa, kelancaran, dan pemahaman.Kata kunci : Keterampilan berbicara, teknik bermain peran, simple past tenseABSTRACTThis research aimed at finding out how far the use of role play technique could help the students‟of SMK Negeri 4 Denpasar on grade X Hospitality Accommodation to improve their speakingability especially in using simple past tense. Some theoretical frameworks are used in thisresearch, such as the theory of teaching speaking by Richard (2008) and theory of teachinggrammar by Williams (2005). Before the treatment was carried, pre-test was conducted in orderto know the students‟ basic ability, so that the achievement can be compared with the next circlesafter the treatment was given. The result of quantitative data showed that the use of role playtechnique could improve the speaking ability of students of SMK Negeri 4 Denpasar. It can beseen from the result of the students‟ achievement tests which increased continuously during theapplication of role play technique.
