Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in supporting the psychological development of adolescents at SMPN 1 Gedung Aji Baru, Tulang Bawang Regency. Using a qualitative approach with a cross-sectional design, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of students taking PAI subjects. The results of the study indicate that PAI teachers have a significant contribution in the formation of students' character through an approach that touches on emotional, social, and spiritual aspects. Teachers not only act as teachers, but also as counselors and role models who are able to create a learning environment that supports the psychological balance of adolescents. This role also strengthens students' self-confidence, resilience, and positive attitudes towards themselves and their social environment. However, challenges were also found such as the lack of teachers' ability to manage emotions, which has an impact on the effectiveness of interactions with students. Therefore, the development of teachers' emotional skills is important to improve the quality of character education holistically. These findings recommend the importance of professional training for PAI teachers so that they are able to become agents of student character transformation amidst the psychosocial challenges of the modern era. ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi peran guru Pendidikan Agama Islam (PAI) dalam mendukung perkembangan psikologis remaja di SMPN 1 Gedung Aji Baru, Kabupaten Tulang Bawang. Menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan desain cross-sectional, data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, wawancara mendalam, dan dokumentasi terhadap siswa yang mengikuti mata pelajaran PAI. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru PAI memiliki kontribusi signifikan dalam pembentukan karakter siswa melalui pendekatan yang menyentuh aspek emosional, sosial, dan spiritual. Guru tidak hanya berperan sebagai pengajar, tetapi juga sebagai konselor dan teladan yang mampu menciptakan lingkungan belajar yang mendukung keseimbangan psikologis remaja. Peran ini turut memperkuat kepercayaan diri, resiliensi, serta sikap positif siswa terhadap diri sendiri dan lingkungan sosialnya. Meskipun demikian, ditemukan pula tantangan seperti kurangnya kemampuan guru dalam mengelola emosi, yang berdampak pada efektivitas interaksi dengan siswa. Oleh karena itu, pengembangan keterampilan emosional guru menjadi penting untuk meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan karakter secara holistik. Temuan ini merekomendasikan pentingnya pelatihan profesional bagi guru PAI agar mampu menjadi agen transformasi karakter siswa di tengah tantangan psikososial era modern.
