Abstract

This study addresses the issue of students' low ability to understand mathematical concepts, which often serves as a major obstacle in solving mathematical problems. Conceptual understanding is a fundamental skill that students must master to effectively tackle various mathematical challenges. However, field observations indicate that many students struggle to grasp mathematical concepts due to a lack of active engagement in the learning process. Therefore, innovation in teaching methods is necessary, one of which is the implementation of the STEM PjBL (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Project-Based Learning) model. This model is designed to provide project-based learning experiences that allow students to explore concepts directly, work collaboratively, and connect learning to real-world situations.  This study employs a quasi-experimental method with a Post-Test Only Control Group design. The research population consists of all 11th-grade students at a public senior high school in Singaraja, with two classes selected as samples through cluster random sampling. Data were collected using essay tests to measure students' conceptual understanding of mathematics and analyzed using a one-tailed t-test at a 5% significance level. The results indicate that students who learned using the STEM PjBL model demonstrated a better understanding of mathematical concepts compared to those who participated in conventional learning.
