This study aims to analyze audience reception of DeepSeek AI news coverage on Tempo.co, specifically to understand how Generation Z interprets and responds to issues surrounding artificial intelligence. The research employs Stuart Hall’s reception analysis using a qualitative approach. Data were examined through the encoding-decoding model to identify patterns of dominant, negotiated, and oppositional readings of the online news content. The findings reveal that Gen Z's perception of DeepSeek AI news on Tempo.co reflects dominant and negotiated positions. Gen Z readers critically interpret the reporting, focusing on word choice and the underlying narrative of the AI rivalry between ChatGPT and DeepSeek AI within the broader geopolitical tension between the United States and China. The meaning derived from the news is shaped by the readers' dynamic experiences and socio-cultural backgrounds. Furthermore, the reception of information occurs not only at the level of consciousness but also manifests in social practices, demonstrated by the strategic negotiation in the ethical and responsible use of AI
