Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh siswa SMP kelas VII dalam menyelesaikan soal geometri bangun datar berdasarkan teori Newman. Teori Newman, yang terdiri dari lima tahap: memahami soal, menerjemahkan soal, mengorganisasi informasi, menerapkan algoritma, dan mengevaluasi hasil, digunakan sebagai dasar untuk menganalisis kesalahan siswa. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari 9 siswa yang dipilih secara purposive. Data dikumpulkan melalui pemberian soal-soal geometri dan analisis terhadap jawaban siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kesalahan paling sering terjadi pada tahap transformasi, keterampilan proses, dan penulisan jawaban akhir. Siswa sering mengalami kesalahan dalam menerjemahkan soal ke dalam rumus matematika yang tepat dan dalam proses perhitungan. Oleh karena itu, disarankan untuk memberikan pembelajaran yang lebih menekankan pada pemahaman konsep dasar geometri dan ketelitian dalam perhitungan, serta meningkatkan keterampilan siswa dalam menerjemahkan soal ke dalam bentuk matematika yang benar. Abstract This study aims to analyze the errors made by 7th-grade students in junior high school while solving flat geometry problems based on Newman’s theory. Newman’s theory, which consists of five stages: understanding the problem, transforming the problem, organizing information, applying the correct algorithm, and evaluating the results, serves as the basis for analyzing students' mistakes. The research subjects consisted of 9 purposively selected students. Data were collected by administering geometry problems and analyzing students' answers. The results showed that the most frequent errors occurred during the transformation, process skills, and encoding stages. Students often made mistakes in translating the problem into the correct mathematical formula and in performing calculations. Therefore, it is recommended to focus on teaching basic geometric concepts and accuracy in calculations, as well as enhancing students' skills in translating problems into correct mathematical forms.
