Abstract

ABSTRACT The concept of teacher-student etiquette in Islamic educational traditions holds significant relevance for modern educational challenges. This study aims to analyze Al-Ghazali’s concept of teacher-student etiquette in Bidāyah al-Hidāyah and contextualize it within contemporary education. The study employs a qualitative approach through library research. Primary data were sourced from Al-Ghazali’s work, while secondary data were obtained from books, journals, and scholarly articles related to character education and moral values. The findings reveal that Al-Ghazali's concept of teacher-student etiquette includes the teacher’s responsibilities toward students, such as sincerity, gradual teaching, and exemplary behavior, and the student’s responsibilities toward teachers, such as obedience, respect, and humility. These values align with modern character education principles that emphasize ethics, interpersonal relationships, and personality development. In the context of globalization and digitalization, these concepts can be adapted through technology-based learning strategies that uphold ethical values. This study recommends integrating etiquette values into character-based curricula, with pedagogical approaches relevant to contemporary needs. Al-Ghazali’s concept is not only applicable to Islamic education but also offers a universal contribution to character development in modern education. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis konsep adab guru-murid menurut Al-Ghazali dalam Bidāyah al-Hidāyah serta mengkontekstualisasikannya ke dalam pendidikan kontemporer. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi literatur dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Data primer berasal dari karya Al-Ghazali, sedangkan data sekunder diperoleh dari buku, jurnal, dan artikel ilmiah terkait pendidikan karakter dan nilai-nilai adab. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsep adab guru-murid yang diajarkan Al-Ghazali mencakup kewajiban guru terhadap murid seperti keikhlasan, pengajaran bertahap, dan keteladanan; serta kewajiban murid terhadap guru seperti ketaatan, penghormatan, dan sikap rendah hati. Nilai-nilai ini memiliki kesesuaian dengan prinsip pendidikan karakter modern yang menekankan etika, hubungan interpersonal, dan pembentukan kepribadian yang unggul. Dalam konteks globalisasi dan digitalisasi, konsep ini dapat diadaptasi melalui strategi pembelajaran berbasis teknologi yang tetap menjunjung tinggi nilai-nilai adab. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan pengintegrasian nilai-nilai adab dalam kurikulum berbasis karakter, dengan pendekatan pedagogis yang relevan untuk menanamkan nilai-nilai tersebut. Konsep Al-Ghazali tidak hanya relevan untuk pendidikan berbasis Islam tetapi juga memberikan kontribusi universal bagi pembentukan karakter siswa di era modern.
