This study aims to investigate the effect of storytelling method combined with hand puppet media on improving the narrative text writing capability of seventh grade students at SMPN 1 Padarincang. This research design uses a quasi experimental method within the framework of a quantitative approach by involving two groups, namely the treatment class and the comparison class. In the treatment class, the storytelling method using hand puppets was applied, while the comparison class learnt using audiovisual media. Analysis of the results confirmed that there was a real effect of using the storytelling method assisted by hand puppets on students' narrative writing ability. This fact is reflected in the higher mean score in the treatment class, which is 10,80, compared to the comparison class which reached a mean of 10,04. In addition, the t-test results showed a Sig. (2-tailed) of 0,037 ≤ 0,05. Therefore, it can be concluded that the storytelling method with hand puppet media has a real effect in accelerating the ability to write narrative texts of grade VII students at SMPN 1 Padarincang.
