Abstract

Background: Exclusive breastfeeding is a crucial indicator in improving infant and child health. However, the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding remains below national targets. Internal factors such as maternal knowledge and external factors such as husband’s support are believed to influence its success. Objective: This study aims to examine the relationship between maternal knowledge and husband’s support with exclusive breastfeeding practices in the working area of Cot Seumeureung Health Center. Methods: This is a quantitative study using a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 92 breastfeeding mothers with infants aged 6–12 months, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using Chi-Square test and multiple linear regression. Results: The findings indicate a significant relationship between maternal knowledge (p = 0.018) and husband’s support (p = 0.004) with exclusive breastfeeding practices. Husband’s support emerged as the dominant factor with the highest regression coefficient (β = 0.57), compared to maternal knowledge (β = 0.42). Conclusion: Both maternal knowledge and husband’s support have a positive and significant influence on exclusive breastfeeding success. Breastfeeding promotion programs should actively involve both mothers and fathers to improve exclusive breastfeeding rates at the community level.
