Abstract

This experimental research was conducted at tenth grade of SMAN 2 Kuok. This research aims to find out whether there is an effect on using Instagram as media towards the students’ writing descriptive text, in academic year 2019/2020. This is a quasi-experiment research. From the entire population, two classes were chosen as the sample. Class X IIS as the experiment class and class X MIPA as the control class. The experimental class was taught by using Instagram as media meanwhile control was taught by using Google Classroom as media. The data were obtained by using Pre-test and Post-test. Pre-test was given to both classes before the treatment and Post-test of both classes were analyzed by using t-test. Based on the data analysis of the research showed that the average students post-test in experimental class were 70, and control class has average students post-test were 67. It means there is a significant difference in the students’ writing skill between the students who were taught by using Instagram and those who were taught using teacher method. It can be conclude that there was effectivenes of using Instagram as media toward the students’ writing skill at the tenth grade of SMAN 2 Kuok.

Abstract

Analysis of students 'speaking skills in this study aims to determine how students' speaking skills using WhatsApp. The Students have difficulty expressing ideas of the students having difficulty speaking. This research was conducted in class X MIPA and IIS in 2019/2020. As a research subject, online learning involved 40 class X students. The design and method used in this study was descriptive research. The author uses the test as an instrument in this study. The results of this study indicate that the mean score of the students is 70.3 which indicates that the students' speaking skills are good. Students can speak English and understand what is being said, Students also feel confident when speaking English. Meanwhile 11 or 25.1% of students did not like learning English, especially speaking skills. Students did not speak English and did not understand what was said. This means that the speaking ability of students in this class is good.

Abstract

This study aims to determine students' writing skills where the results were obtained through interviews with English subject teachers. The writing skills of students identified, especially errors in using grammar in writing recount text, were obtained from the results of interviews with subject teachers who had corrected the results of students' recount text writing. The method used in this research is a qualitative method by conducting interviews with English subject teachers. One English subject teacher was chosen as a participant. Data were collected through semistructure interviews with subject teachers. The results showed that from the analysis of the students' writing by the teacher, the results were not good. Students make mistakes in using grammar, such as using tobe, verbs, conjunctions and writing simple past tense sentences.

Abstract

This research aims to find out whether there is an effect on using Story completion technique towards the students’ speaking skill in online class, in academic year 2019/2020. This research is quasi-experimental research that carried out at first grade students of SMA N 1 SALO. In taking the sample, the researcher used cluster sampling technique. It involved 43 students of two classes, XI IPA 1 as experimental class and XI IPA 2 as control class. Each class consisted of 21 students and 22 students. The experimental class was taught by using Story completion technique while control class was taught by using teacher’s method. The data were analyzed by using T-test formula. Based on the result findings, it can be concluded that the use of Story completion technique in teaching speaking skill in online class is effective. Therefore, it is recommended that Story completion can be implemented as one of the effective teaching technique for the teacher to teach speaking skill and for the future researcher can use the same kind of the research with different sample and condition.

Abstract

This research is purposed to know about students’ ability at the second grade in using simple past tense. This research used qualitative descriptive analysis. The instrument of this research is a test. This research has only one variable. The variable is students’ ability in using simple past tense. The researcher chose the second grade students at Universitas Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai. The respondent of the research consist of 32 students. The result of the test was analyzed to know the students’ ability in using the simple past tense. The finding of this research that the students' ability in using simple past tense at the second grade students of Universitas Pahlawan Tuanku Tambusai is in the less category with an average value of 30.16. There are 2 students (6.25%) were good, 6 students (18.75%) were medium, 11 students (34.37%) in the poor category, 13 students (40.63%) in the low category. The researcher hope the teacher should give more attention to the material of simple past tense and the teacher should give the suitable strategy to improve the students’ ability in using simple past tense.

Abstract

The purpose of the research was to find out the idiomatic expression and to find out the contextual meaning of idiom expression which are used in Adele’s lyrics song. The technique of analyzing the data the researcher used descriptive qualitative. Qualitative research referred to the meaning, concepts, definitions, symbols and description of the things. There are 56 idiomatic expression found in 3 types of idiom those are Phrasal verb idiom, Tournure idiom and Irreversible Binomial idiom. Whereas another idiom could not be found by the researcher during the analysis. This research found the menaing of idiom expression moast as a contextual meaning. The researcher hopes that’s this thesis will be useful for both theoretical and practical source in learning how to translate English Idiom and also for those who conduct further study about analysis of idiomatic expression.

Abstract

This research consists of problems reseseach objective methods reseach findings and coclusions , This reseach focused on students’ ability to write descriptive text Descriptive text included in the type of text that are not to difficult but still found some difficulties faced by students when writing this eassay, this is the background of reseachers doing this research The purpose of the study is to analyze students’ ability to write descriptive text. In collecting data, reseachers used the writing test as an instrument . This research is a quantitative descriptive study . The components analyzed are idea development ,organizing ideas, grammar , vocabulary , meachanisms , content and punctuation . Reseachers analyzed students’ writing abilities based on five categories : very good , good , sufficient , weak ,lacking and very lacking This reseach was conducted at MTS Darun Na’im class IX . The results of this study illustrate that students face difficulties in organizing and developing ideas. They are not able to develop ideas on the text they write . Whereas the grammar component found no fundamental difficulties The vocabulary component also found some difficulties in applying good English vocabulary and still using Indonesian vocabulary . for the punctuation component, no significant errors were found . Based on the result of this study the teacher is advised to pay more attention to the teaching of this study the teacher is advised to pay more attention to the teaching of descriptive text structures in the development of ideas, idea content , organizing , vocabulary , grammar, mechanisms . Teachers are also expected to provide more examples and exercises on descriptive text to students so that educational goals are achieved well, especially in English subjects

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the students reading interest in new normal era, in academic year 2019/2020. This research is a descriptive research. The writer chose the sample by using random sampling technique.It involved one class from grade IX Ahmad Yani Junior High School 1 Bangkinang Kota that consisted of 32 students. The writer distributed questionnaires to 32 students and took 5 students to be interviewed. To answer the research question, the questionnaires were distributed and the writer do interview for 5 students. It doto know the students’ reading interest in new normal era and the differences of book media in new normal era. After collecting the data, the result of this research showed that students had high interest in reading during the pandemic. It was also supported by the result of the questionnaire. The percentage was 62.5%. The students mostly interested to read because that their hobby and they do reading activity during the pandemic. While in book media during the pandemic, the student feel difference with book media in face to face. The result, the students more easy, simpler and save their time to reading a book without bring the book enywhere or anytime. Based on the results of the research, the writer concluded that the students had high reading interest although in pandemic situation and they take the advantages from the technology in New Normal Era.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui pengaruh Penerapan Model Pembelajaran Kooperatif Tipe Jigsaw tehadap hasil belajar siswa kelas XI OTKP SMK YPS Prabumulih.Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa SMK YPS Prabumulih Kelas XI Otkp yang berjumlah 30 orang. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tindakan kelas. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan formulir observasi dan analisis data dilakukan secara kuantitatif dan kualitatif.Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa Penerapan Model Pembelajaran Kooperatif Tipe Jigsaw dapat meningkatkan motivasi hasil belajar. Sebelum penelitian menggunakan penerapan penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe jigsaw  Data tersebut menunjukkan dari jumlah siswa 30, sebelum proses pembelajaran memakai metode kooperatif tipe jigsaw, siswa terlihat tidak antusian dan motivasi dari belajar tidak sesuai harapan, sehingga dari 30 siswa , ada tidak memenuhi syarat belajar dengan presentase 67 % belum tuntas masih di bawah kriteria ketuntasan minimal 75. Nilai tertinggi 85 dan terendah. skornya 50. Artinya hanya 34 %  siswa yang tuntas kriteria ketuntasan minimal (kkm) bahasa Inggris yang telah ditetapkan. siswa diakui sebagai lulusan. Selain itu, banyak juga siswa yang pasif ketika mengikuti kegiatan pembelajaran. Dalam wawancara dengan pendidik, guru mengatakan, “Hanya sekitar 10 dari 30 siswa yang terlihat berpartisipasi aktif dalam pembelajaran. Siklus I. Kemudian pada siklus II ketuntasan klasikal meningkat menjadi 87,00 pada 93 %  dengan kategori “berhasil”. penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe jigsaw dapat meningkatkan aktivitas belajar pada siswa kelas XI Otkp SMK YPS Prabumulih.

Abstract

Pembelajaran yang dilakukan guru selama siklus I dan siklus II menunjukkan performance yang baik. Guru mulai menerapkan metode dan teknik pengajaran yang bervareasi, guru berusaha menstimulus keaktifan dan kekreatifan siswa, guru menyajikan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris secara integral, guru tidak hanya berkomunikasi pada tuntasnya suatu materi pelajaran saja tetapi lebih memperhatikan kemampuan penguasaan yang diperoleh siswa. Hal ini dapat dilihat pada pada aspek kesesuaian merespon dengan instruksi terjadi kenaikan pada tahap I dengan nilai 70 ke 75 pada tahap II dan 85 pada tahap ke III, juga terjadi perubahan yang signifikan pada aspek peran aktif siswa dalam kegiatan pembelajaran yang mengalami peningkatan dari 75 pada tahap I ke 90 pada tahap II dan 100 pada tahap III. Hal ini juga berpengaruh juga pada aspek tanggapan siswa tentang media snake and ladder penguatan dengan pendekatan CTL (Contextual Teaching and Learning) dengan nilai berturut-turut 90, 95 dan 100 pada tahap II
