Abstract

This study aimed to identify the association between dietary habits and the incidence of tonsilitis among university students. The research was conducted at the medical faculty of Hasanuddin University, Makassar. It was conducted from September to October 2022. A total of 156 students participated in this study. The students filled out a questionnaire that was prepared using Google Forms. This study measured two variables: the consumption habits of fried foods and the incidence of tonsilitis. The incidence of tonsilitis was assessed through questions related to the presence of tonsil inflammation, such as pain during swallowing, dry/sore throat, fever, runny nose, headache, and ear pain. Data processing was carried out in four steps, editing, coding, data entry, and cleaning. Subsequently, statistical analysis was performed to identify the relationship between fried food consumption habits and the symptoms of tonsilitis. The data was identified with chi square test and Mann-Whitney test. This study did not find an association between consumption of unhealthy food and the incidence of tonsilitis in Hasanuddin University medical students. Keywords:          Tonsilitis, eating habits   Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan kebiasaan pola makan (Dietary habits) seseorang dengan kejadian tonsilitis pada mahasiswa fakultas kedokteran Universitas Hasanuddin tahun 2019. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan September-Oktober 2022 di Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Hasanuddin, Makassar. Sebanyak 156 mahasiswa berpartisipasi dalam penelitian dengan mengisi kuesioner Google Forms. Penelitian ini mengukur 2 (dua) variabel yaitu kebiasaan mengonsumsi makanan gorengan dan gejala tonsilitis (The incidence of Tonsilitis). Tonsilitis dinilai melalui pertanyaan apakah terdapat peradangan pada tonsil seperti nyeri saat menelan, sakit/nyeri tenggorokan, demam, pilek, sakit kepala, dan sakit telinga. Data diolah dengan melalui 4 (empat) tahap yaitu editing, coding, entry dan cleaning. Selanjutnya data dianalisis untuk menemukan hubungan antara kebiasaan mengonsumsi makanan gorengan dan gejala tonsilitis dengan uji Chi-square dan uji Mann-whitney. Penelitian ini tidak menemukan hubungan yang signifikan antara konsumsi makanan tidak sehat dan kejadian tonsilitis pada mahasiswa fakultas kedokteran Universitas Hasanuddin tahun 2019.
