Abstract

Defense Mechanisms Of Female Main Characters in The Film "Sehidup Semati"This study examines the self-defense mechanisms experienced by the main female character, Renata, in the film "Sehidup Semati" through the approach of Sigmund Freud's literary psychology. Using descriptive qualitative methods along with observation and documentation techniques, this study analyzes scenes and dialogues in the film that represent forms of subconscious self-defense such as repression, projection, denial, rationalization, and identification. The results of the analysis show that Renata unconsciously uses these mechanisms in response to the mental pressure that arises from traumatic experiences and unequal power relations. In addition to contributing to the development of literary psychology studies, this study also broadens insight into the psychological impact of violence and patriarchal culture on women. These findings are expected to become material for social reflection and educational media in understanding the psychological complexity of women who are survivors of violence.
