Abstract

A laceration (vulnus scissum) is characterized by a straight and regular edge of the wound and is generally caused by trauma to sharp objects. Indian Almond (Terminalia catappa L) leaf contains medicinal compounds such as flavonoids, saponins, tannins, sterols, alkaloids, and terpenoids that have the potential to be anti-inflammatory and accelerate wound healing. This study determined the effectiveness of Indian Almond (Terminalia catappa L) leaf extract cream on laceration healing in mice (Mus musculus). This study extracted the leaves of Indian Almond (Terminalia catappa L) with 70% ethanol using maceration and phytochemical screening of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and terpenoid compounds. The analysis was followed by the optimization of the cream base to obtain proper consistency according to the requirements. Evaluation was carried out through organoleptic, pH, dispersibility, adhesion, viscosity, and freeze-thaw tests. The analysis was continued by making three concentrations of Indian Almond (Terminalia catappa L) leaf extract: F1 (15%), F2 (20%), and F3 (25%). The effectiveness test of laceration (vulnus scissum) healing in mice (Mus musculus) was divided into 5 groups. Based on the analysis, three formulas of Indian Almond (Terminalia catappa L) leaf extract met the requirements of good cream stability. Based on the effectiveness test, the F3 (25%) formula had the best healing effectiveness with a ten-day healing time.
