The main issue in this study is the level of difficulty experienced by fourth grade students at SDN 139 Lamanda in solving short story problems in the Indonesian language subjeck. This study aims to describe the level of difficulty students faca in solving short story problems in the Indonesian language subject for fourth grade students at SDN 139 Lamanda,Bontotiro Subdistrict, Bulukumba Regency. This research is a descriptive qualitative study, with data collection techniques including pre-test,post-test, and interviews. The results of the study show that students with high abilities are able to understand the content of short stories well,while students with moderate and low abilities still face various difficulties,especially in answering questions that require deeper comprehension. After learning session and intervention were conducted, there was a significant improvement in the post-test, with the average score increasing from 50,78 to 72,65. Interview findings revealed that the factors contributing to students difficulties include low interest in reading,reliance on peer assistance,and a lack of understanding of the vocabulary used in the questions. This study shows that appropriate and continuous learning can improve students literacy skill, particularly in understanding the elements of short stories.
