Abstract

Background: Pulmonary tuberculosis is one of the deadliest infectious diseases in the world, so it can result in dangerous complications that can result in death. One of the factors that affect the incidence of pulmonary TB is adherence to taking medication. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the booklet on the compliance of pulmonary TB patients in taking pulmonary TB drugs. Methods: This study uses a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest method that is not equivalent to a control group. The sample of this study consisted of 20 respondents, 10 intervention groups and ten control groups using MMAS-8 questionnaires and booklet media. Results: The results of the study were known that based on age and gender in the intervention group, the minimum age was 21 years old, the maximum age was 66 years, the control group was at least 18 years old, and the maximum age was 65. The gender of the intervention group was predominantly male 9 (45%), female control group was 6 (30%). Characteristics based on education and occupation: The most educated in the intervention group passed Sd 4 (35%), and the control group passed Sd 5 (25%). The occupation of the intervention group of traders was 4 (20%), and the work of the control group was 6 (30%) traders. In the intervention group, the average compliance before being given education was 4.50, while the booklet was 4.50. The control group had an average of 5.60 compliance. In the intervention group, the average compliance after being given education was 8.00, while in the control group, without using the education booklet, the average compliance score was 5.60. The p-value of 0.000 shows that education using booklets is effective in the compliance of patients with tuberculosis in taking medication for pulmonary TB patients (p value= 0.000). Conclusion: The findings of this study have practical implications for the management of pulmonary TB. Education using booklets has been shown to be effective in increasing compliance among tuberculosis patients. This insight equips healthcare professionals, researchers, and policymakers with a valuable tool for improving treatment outcomes. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that nurses at the Health Center continue education using booklets for pulmonary TB patients, as it has been proven effective in increasing compliance.
