This study aims to describe the types of illocutionary speech acts contained in the use of umpasa in the customary marriage of the Toba Batak community in Aek Song-songan District, Asahan Regency. The approach used is qualitative with descriptive research. The data used contains types of illocutionary speech acts. The data source of this research is perhata in Aek Song-songan District, Asahan Regency. Data collection techniques in this research are observation, recording techniques, listening techniques, note-taking techniques and interviews. Data analysis techniques in this research are data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. Based on the results of the study found a total of thirty-four data divided into types of illocutionary speech acts, namely assertive speech acts totaling three data, directive speech acts totaling eight data, commissive speech acts totaling three data, expressive speech acts totaling nineteen data and declarative speech acts totaling one data.
