This research addresses two key research questions: What role do guidance and counseling teachers play in reducing student truancy, and what factors contribute to students' truancy behavior? The research aims to examine the role of guidance and counseling teachers in addressing truancy among students at SMP Negeri 9 Palu and to identify the underlying factors that lead to truancy behavior. This descriptive qualitative research involved guidance andcounseling teachersandsevenstudentsfromgrades VIIandVIIIasresearchparticipants. Datawerecollectedthroughobservation,interviews,anddocumentationanalysis.Theresearch revealedthatstudenttruancyisaprevalentissueattheschool,withthreeprimarycontributing factors:personalproblems,hostileschoolenvironment,andfamily-relatedissues,particularly broken homes. The study found that guidance and counseling teachers play a crucial role in addressing truancy through various interventions, including individual counseling sessions, group counseling, home visits, and providing ongoing guidance, support, advice, and motivationtohelpstudentsdeveloppositivebehavioralchanges.Thefindingsdemonstratethat guidance and counseling teachers are essential in addressing student truancy problems within theschoolenvironment.Theirmultifacetedapproachtointerventionshowspromiseinhelping students overcome truancy behaviors.
