Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji makna simbolik tradisi mappacci pada masyarakat Bugis di Desa Labuhan Aji, Kecamatan Tarano, Kabupaten Sumbawa. Tradisi mappacci merupakan ritual adat pra-pernikahan yang bermakna penyucian lahir dan batin. Menggunakan pendekatan semiotika Charles Sanders Peirce, penelitian ini menganalisis sembilan simbol dalam prosesi mappacci: bantal, sarung sutera, daun pisang, daun nangka, daun pacci, lilin, beras, air, dan wadah pacci. Metode yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan observasi, wawancara mendalam terhadap tiga tokoh adat, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa setiap perlengkapan memiliki makna simbolik yang mencerminkan nilai kehormatan, kesuburan, kejujuran, kesucian, serta harapan akan rumah tangga yang harmonis dan sejahtera. Melalui analisis triadik Peirce, makna-makna tersebut dipahami dari hubungan antara representamen, objek, dan interpretan. The Symbolic Meaning of the Mappacci Tradition of the Bugis Community in Tarano District, Sumbawa Regency: A Semiotic Study by Charles Sanders Peirce Abstract: This study aims to examine the symbolic meaning of the mappacci tradition among the Bugis community in Labuhan Aji Village, Tarano District, Sumbawa Regency. Mappacci is a pre-wedding traditional ritual that signifies physical and spiritual purification. Using the semiotic approach of Charles Sanders Peirce, this study analyzes nine symbols used in the mappacci procession: pillow, silk sarong, banana leaf, jackfruit leaf, pacci leaf, candle, rice, water, and the pacci container. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews with three traditional leaders, and documentation. The findings reveal that each item used in the mappacci procession carries deep symbolic meanings reflecting Bugis cultural values such as honor, fertility, honesty, purity, and the hope for a harmonious and prosperous household life. Through Peirce's triadic analysis, these meanings are understood from the relationship between representamen, object, and interpretant in shaping the interpretation of cultural signs.
