Abstract

Abstract This study aims to examine whether there are differences in learning motivation between male and female students who use Artificial Intelligence (ChatGPT) in the Guidance and Counseling Program at Manado State University. This study employed a descriptive-correlational quantitative approach with an ex post facto design. From a total population of 188 active students in the 2023-2025 cohort, a sample of 128 respondents (26 male and 102 female) was selected using disproportionate stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire consisting of 14 statements. In addition to descriptive statistics, data analysis was conducted using normality tests (Shapiro-Wilk and Kolmogorov-Smirnov), Levene’s test for homogeneity of variances, and an independent samples t-test to test the main hypothesis. The results showed that the mean learning motivation scores between the two groups were very similar: 51.62 (SD = 7.047) for male students and 51.82 (SD = 6.361) for female students. This very small difference-only 0.16 points-resulted in a two-tailed significance value of 0.929 (p > 0.05), so H0 was accepted. Thus, these data demonstrate that gender does not have a statistically significant effect on the learning motivation of students who use ChatGPT. These findings suggest that students’ motivation and enthusiasm for learning are not actually influenced by gender, but are instead determined by other factors such as personal characteristics, academic assignment requirements, and their level of digital literacy.
