Abstract

ABSTRACTCuttlebone waste generated from coastal culinary and fisheries activities remains underutilized, although it has potential as a mineral source and value-added raw material. This community service program aimed to improve partners' knowledge and practical skills in processing cuttlebone into simple calcium-magnesium powder while strengthening blue-economy-based business opportunities. The target partners were coastal fishers and community members in Bintaro Urban Village, Ampenan Subdistrict, with 14 participants completing the evaluation. The implementation method included coordination, preparation of tools and materials, socialization, mineral-health education, hands-on processing training, preparation of a simple production SOP, and assistance with packaging and marketing. Evaluation was conducted using pretest, posttest, and practice observation. The results showed that the average pretest score increased from 52.86 to 86.79 in the posttest, indicating a gain of 33.93 points or approximately 64.19%. Participants were also able to explain the stages of washing, drying, grinding, sieving, and packaging. This program offers a coastal community empowerment model that integrates cuttlebone-based research, health education, production skills, and sustainable local economic diversification. Keywords: Cuttlebone; Community Empowerment; Coastal Fishers; Blue Economy; Calcium-Magnesium.
