<![CDATA[This study examines money lending and borrowing practices in Lambu Village, Bima Regency, by assessing their compliance with sharia principles. This research employs a qualitative approach using a descriptive-analytical method. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that lending and borrowing transactions within the community are generally conducted informally, based on kinship and trust, without any written contract. Informal loans are preferred by the community because they are considered easier, faster, and less complicated. However, in practice, additional payments beyond the principal amount of the debt were found to have developed as a social custom. These additional payments potentially contain elements of riba. In addition, the absence of a clear contract may also lead to gharar, or uncertainty, in transactions. The community’s understanding of sharia principles, particularly regarding qardh contracts and the prohibition of riba, remains relatively low. Nevertheless, these practices still reflect the positive value of mutual assistance, or ta’awun, among community members. This study concludes that lending and borrowing practices in Lambu Village are not yet fully aligned with sharia principles due to the presence of additional payments and unclear contracts. Therefore, continuous education from religious leaders, the village government, and Islamic financial institutions is needed so that the community can conduct lending and borrowing transactions in a fair, transparent manner and free from elements of riba.]]>
