Analisis Faktor Keterlambatan Membaca Siswa Kelas 3 di SDN 1 Kalijaga Timur

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to analyze the forms, causal factors, and teacher efforts in addressing reading delays among third-grade students at SDN 1 Kalijaga Timur. Reading delay is a serious barrier to students’ literacy competence because third grade is a transitional stage from learning to read toward reading to learn. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach involving the principal, the third-grade teacher, and five students identified as experiencing reading delays. Data were collected through classroom observation, semi-structured interviews, documentation, and a simple literacy assessment. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while credibility was strengthened through source triangulation, technique triangulation, member checking, and peer debriefing. The findings show that students’ reading difficulties varied, including incomplete letter recognition, confusion between visually similar letters, difficulty combining syllables and consonants, inaccurate reading, stuttering, weak attention to punctuation, low reading fluency, and limited comprehension of reading content. The dominant internal factors were low learning interest, weak motivation, limited concentration, and difficulties in recognizing letters and syllables. The dominant external factors were limited parental attention, inadequate home learning facilities, socioeconomic constraints, and less varied instructional strategies. The most relevant teacher efforts included individual guidance, additional reading time, attractive learning media, and school–parent collaboration. The study contributes to the literature on reading delay in middle elementary grades within diverse socioeconomic contexts. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bentuk, faktor penyebab, dan upaya guru dalam mengatasi keterlambatan membaca pada siswa kelas 3 di SDN 1 Kalijaga Timur. Keterlambatan membaca menjadi hambatan serius terhadap pencapaian kompetensi literasi karena kelas 3 merupakan tahap peralihan dari belajar membaca menuju membaca untuk belajar. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif. Subjek penelitian meliputi kepala sekolah, guru kelas 3, dan lima siswa yang teridentifikasi mengalami keterlambatan membaca. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi kelas, wawancara semi-terstruktur, dokumentasi, dan asesmen literasi sederhana. Analisis data dilakukan melalui reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan, sedangkan keabsahan data diperkuat melalui triangulasi sumber, triangulasi teknik, member check, dan peer debriefing. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kesulitan membaca siswa beragam, meliputi belum mengenal huruf secara utuh, tertukar dalam membedakan huruf yang mirip, kesulitan menggabungkan suku kata dan huruf konsonan, kesalahan membaca, membaca terbata-bata, belum memahami tanda baca, belum lancar membaca, serta belum memahami isi bacaan. Faktor internal yang dominan adalah rendahnya minat belajar, kurangnya motivasi, keterbatasan konsentrasi, dan kesulitan mengenali huruf serta suku kata. Faktor eksternal yang dominan adalah kurangnya perhatian orang tua, keterbatasan fasilitas belajar di rumah, kondisi sosial ekonomi keluarga, serta metode pembelajaran yang kurang bervariasi. Upaya guru yang paling relevan meliputi bimbingan individual, tambahan waktu membaca, penggunaan media menarik, dan kerja sama sekolah dengan orang tua. Penelitian ini menambah literatur tentang keterlambatan membaca pada jenjang kelas menengah SD dengan latar sosial ekonomi beragam.
