Dress standards regulations at religious universities often trigger social categorization phenomena that directly impact female students' psychological comfort in the academic environment. This issue demands an in-depth sociological understanding of the influence of appearance restrictions on the level of closeness between students. The main focus of this study is to analyze the meaning of dress standards on the group acceptance process and social interaction patterns of female students at Hamzanwadi University. This qualitative research, using a phenomenological design, was conducted through purposive sampling of twenty active female students. Primary field data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation, which were then analyzed using open, axial, and selective coding, based on the Miles and Huberman interactive analysis model. Descriptive quantitative data from the research indicate that 40 percent of subjects interpreted dress codes as a form of religiosity, 35 percent as a social identity, and 25 percent as an adaptation strategy. The research findings reveal the formation of symbolic groups in the form of sharia, moderate, and flexible clusters, which trigger dynamics of inclusion and hidden social exclusion, resulting in feelings of awkwardness in the classroom. The main conclusion confirms that dress standards act as a mechanism for collective identity conversion, influencing the symbolic circulation of interactions. Campus management is recommended to evaluate this normative policy to be more responsive to the sociocultural negotiation space and gender agency of female students on an ongoing basis.
