Abstract

Genetics, the science of inheritance or heredity of traits, is applied in breeding programs to produce animals or plants with superior characteristics. These superior traits can be achieved through cross-breeding selected animals or plants to obtain improved offspring. An Android-based application has been developed as a learning medium to predict the traits that will appear in the first generation of offspring, as well as in the second generation when these offspring are crossed. This application is intended for use as an educational tool for junior high school students. The system was developed using the waterfall methodology and implemented with Java and XML programming languages in the Eclipse Juno integrated development environment. Presenting the application in a mobile format is expected to increase accuracy, reduce the likelihood of errors, and decrease the time required to determine the inheritance outcomes of the input organisms
