Abstract

Background: The inadequate implementation of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) generally results in 2 million workers experiencing workplace accidents. In Indonesia, there are 414 cases of workplace accidents occurring daily. Workplace accidents can be triggered by excessive work fatigue or burnout—whether physical, mental, or psychological—and microsleep. This study aims to determine the relationship between burnout and microsleep with workplace accidents among dump truck operators at the Jupiter Mining Operation Division of PT X. Methods: This was a quantitative study employing a cross-sectional design. The sample was selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through direct questionnaires administered to 70 respondents. The data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank test. Results: The results of this study indicated that the relationship between burnout and workplace accidents yielded a p-value = 0.001, and the relationship between microsleep and workplace accidents yielded a p-value = 0.001. Conclusion: It can be concluded that there is a relationship between burnout and workplace accidents, and there is a relationship between microsleep and workplace accidents. The implications of this study suggest the need to optimize the management of burnout and microsleep to reduce workplace accident rates. It is recommended that the company conduct observations during critical hours for the occurrence of burnout and microsleep, implement light stretching programs, and improve health service management and worker awareness regarding good sleep hygiene for shift workers
