This study aims to improve letter recognition ability in Grade I students of SD Swasta PAB 24 Kampung Tanjung through the use of letter board media. This research uses Classroom Action Research (CAR) method conducted in two cycles. The research subjects were 15 Grade I students. The results showed significant improvement: in Cycle I, the class average was 65.3 with a passing rate of 46.7%; while in Cycle II it increased to 89.3 with a classical passing rate of 100%. Teacher activity observation showed a percentage of 87.5% in the very good category. Student response questionnaire results indicated that the majority of students gave positive responses to the use of letter board media. It is concluded that letter board media is effective in improving letter recognition ability in Grade I elementary school students.
